Re: Everton vs West Brom
Think over the next few weeks we'll see who WBA take points off and realise it's really fucking hard work playing against 11 men in the defensive half of their own half. We had the breakthrough that would have changed the game, but mirallas pissed it up the wall. That's why we only took a point from this game.

Overall we didn't play too badly. Ok the swagger of last season still isn't there but at least they showed some determination to win, unlike the run of games around Christmas. We're away to Palace next and hopefully they won't sit quite so deep.
The whole penalty incident is worrying. I don't think he was injured - he didn't want to sit in the dressing room after missing the penalty so faked a tweaked hamstring.

Martinez is now quoted to saying? he was surprised by the supporters actions when substituting Mo Besic ,who he now says wanted to come off due to injury.

I thought Besic played OK. Barkley was gash again.

Besic needs McCarthy to support him in midfield, this will take a lot of pressure away from Besic who try's to do to much, resulting in giving away silly yellow cards,
Hopefully the week away in Qatar will help Barkley, just don't play him out of position.
Re: Everton vs West Brom
Besic and McCarthy have to be the new midfield pairing because Barry is now woeful. Slow to get back and terrible in the final third. Kept wasting possession with intercepted passes. At least Besic played with energy and enthusiasm. Oviedo too had a bit of drive down the left when he came on.
Its hard to know where to start when looking ahead now. The players are terribly short of confidence. I knew last nights game would be a slog, especially the longer Brom kept us scoreless. Lukaku had about 3 players marking him and Naismith was denied any space in the hole. The minute we got near the edge of their box, West contracted into a bank of 8-9 and sucked all the space out. It showed great discipline but terrible to watch. We needed to get the ball wide but with no natural width and Coleman/Baines edgy and second guessing themselves, Brom held us at ease.
There was just one 4-5 minutes period in second half where we had them pressed nearer their goal line but otherwise, we were kept at arms length. We seem to play better when the game is more open (City, West Ham) but when teams come to sit and break (Stoke, Brom) we just don't have the energy, confidence or drive to get in behind them. Maybe the penalty would have changed things last night had we scored but could you imagine us trying to defend a one nil lead for 45mins? Even in the rare instances that Brom got forward they could have hurt us.
Im delighted we are not playing this weekend because every match now fills me with terror. And with the derby around the corner, the day of reckoning is nearly upon us.
Bobby's body language is really worrying now. He rambled on last night without any sense of awareness that we are in a battle to save our lives.
We need Macca back and quick. We need some invention in final third. Doubt there is any thing in the transfer market to solve it so Bobby needs to get players back to last season. Can he do that? At the moment, I doubt it.

Re: Everton vs West Brom
funny old game....
WBA came for a point, very well set up, sacrificed Berahinho (sp?) to clog up their left side. I was worried when Sessegnon came on that they'd finally have a little pace and find us out, but the back 4 was pretty good. Defensively Barry was very good last night, broke up a lot, but once again he kept trying to thread balls through gaps that were just not there.
Hope that's brought Mirallas down a peg or two. He owes the squad big time. The thought occurred to me though when Baines let him have the ball that maybe Kev was due to be subbed at the 45. He certainly wasn't a ball of fire in the first half.

On the nose there. All the old new-age-speak sounds like waffle now. "He's in a moment of form" etc just sounds daft and meaningless.Bluejagz wrote:

Hell, as a group of supporters we've turned feral. Guys in Upper Bullens were almost fighting.
It's an ugly time at GP right now.
This would have been Moyes's time. He loved a feral fight. RM looks like he'd want to negotiate his way out of this, when DM would have just thrown a paddy, ordered more training, and kicked KM back to Belgium.
Amazing that our collective aim is now 40 points.
