Re: Phil Jagielka - "Torres in my Pocket"
don't forget, when Moyes started at Everton we were down near the bottom and he bought in a load of journeyman players with experience who could do a job. He also kept going back to those who did what he asked them to and he stayed loyal to them.Barry Horne's Equaliser wrote:Knight of Thorgothshire wrote:Everton manager Ronald Koeman is unsure if 34-year-old defender Phil Jagielka, who has been linked with Sunderland, will be at the club beyond this month.

Did wonder earlier this week whether or not Sunderland would end up being linked as Moyes builds an even older Everton mk II.
Re: Phil Jagielka - "Torres in my Pocket"
Statement on Facebook from Everton official
Koeman quoted as saying...
I spoke to Jags about his situation & he accepted it. We need competition with the defenders. I understend it's difficult for Jags because he is the captain. But we'd like to keep him as he can play an important role to the end of the season

Fair play to him. He must know that he will mainly be used as backup this season, but his experience will really help the younger defenders to develop.
Re: Phil Jagielka - "Torres in my Pocket"
From the photos on the Official site looks like he has taken the new boy under his wing.

Looks like RK is going for a back 3, so Jags continues, at least until Coleman recovers and a.n.other CB arrives.Dixie Land wrote:Armchair wrote:Signed a new one year deal.

we should try to keep him, if only on a short term contract, with Zouma going and Mina on the treatment bench, we need experienced cover.Made 4 Gwladys wrote:out of contract this summer ... what will he / we do ?

I can see him finishing his career off with his beloved "Blades", now they are back in the big time.

Re: Phil Jagielka - "Torres in my Pocket"
I'd say he has been one of the best. Fantastic player for several seasons, but a great character on the pitch and great ambassador off it. Players like him and Baines don't come along too often. Wish him well.

Re: Phil Jagielka - "Torres in my Pocket"
Memories of Jags in no particular order:
1) Penalty v Man U
2) Goal at Anfield
3) First #efc player to captain England
4) Top class defender 2007-09 before losing possible peak of career through injury, which we forget
5) Never anything less than a credit to club and profession

Re: Phil Jagielka - "Torres in my Pocket"
was hoping he'd get one more season, he still has the odd game left in him. He and his experience will be greatly missed by the club.

Re: Phil Jagielka - "Torres in my Pocket"
Was hoping we'd get another season of him in the dressing room, but now I fully expect him to sign for Sheffield Utd.
Great player, great servant to the club.
