Re: Everton v Watford
Pretty poor.
we were better in the second half, but how they didn't pick up a red or two I don't know.

If we can't beat Watford at home, what hope have we got for the upcoming games against decent teams? Deja vu from the start of season.

Re: Everton v Watford
Our season in 90 minutes there I reckon. We'll concede goals, we'll play insipid, slow, sideways football with no purpose for large periods, we'll up the pace and rally a bit at times, but not frequently enough, we'll score some good goals, but again not frequently enough.
Long season ahead.
On the brightside, we are 5th.. wooo hooo.

could happen to anyone, ask Chelsea.
the difference being Swans were far better than Chavs, who are as usual surrounding the ref after the match.
Shelvey was outstanding.

Just watched the highlights with Russian commentary, and the goals we scored were good. The defending on the goals we gave up were not the best.SouthernSmugToffee wrote:It sounds like it was better than you lot are painting it. 67% possession and goal of the month
Sounds like we were shite though.

Roberto even admitted we were bad, saying that the players were still in pre-season and didn't start playing till Ross Barkleys strike.

Re: Everton v Watford
The frustrating part of this is that the game was on NBC in the US. It was a perfect chance to showcase our team.

And the first three pages of the thread were all pre-match build up chat, so only 3 pages of actual match discussion…...

Re: Everton v Watford
A beautiful sunny day at Goodison, but same old same old from Martinez and the boys. It's like a continuation of last season. The good news? Kone changed the game, Barkley wasn't bad. The bad news? Everything else.
Clearly, you pay £28m for a striker, you have to play him. But less clear to Bobby is the idea that, if do have to play him just because he cost £28m then you might as well play to his strengths. So play him with someone alongside him. Don't ask him to play with his back to goal, or punt high balls up to him, because he has no control and he's not all that good with his head. But Bobby is obviously seeing something that the rest of us aren't. Not sure what Cleverley is supposed to bring to the party either. And finally, why did we only start playing with any purpose in the second half? Were the players not listening to Bobby or did he really tell them to take it nice and slow at the start of the first game of the season against a side who had hardly even met each other before?
Oviedo looked very rusty to me. Mirallas was frustrating. We missed Baines. etc etc etc
I think we should play Luka and Kone up front, with Barkley in the hole behind them. But we won't.

Re: Everton v Watford
I felt sorry for Kone as the crowd growned on seeing his number come up on the board. Then, 1 goal 1 assist. In the fantasy league's team of the week!!hairberto cataract wrote:A beautiful sunny day at Goodison, but same old same old from Martinez and the boys. It's like a continuation of last season. The game was screaming for Ossie's little 5-10 yarders around the box, but we just plugged on with 3 leggers in Not-so-Cleverly, Macca and Barry.
If Cleverley was playing left Mid, he did little to support our young LB. Just another journeyman as far as I could see. When Galloway had the ball, Cleverley would run into space, but always behind an opponent so Galloway couldn't get it to him. Just hiding. Our seats give you a perfect view of the angles.
Jags is too nice!!!!! Hit 'em hard Phil!! Yell at players!! Pump up your volume!! All too often we concede and Jags just looks dejected. We need winners who hate losing.
Anyway, Koeman's injured so no worries next week.
