Scholes will end his career at UTD, what else is there to achieve at Everton?

What he said.

Anyway, Rodwell is no Rooney. He's very good player, no more and no less; in any other era he would have been a solid one-team man, staying at Everton til he was put out to pasture. In Sky-Times though, any player with an ounce of talent is bigged-up just to fill the column inches. If anyone offers us silly money, we have to take it. Not far off Lescott money plus a sell-on clause would do it I reckon.

Once we're back to full strength Rodwell might not even be a first teamer. Mind you, he's a fuck of a lot better than Fellaini. Though, of course, so is my nan.

He'll end his career with Oldham. But the statement about Everton is true.

Hypothetically ( although some people are saying it) this lad could be better than Gerrard. he is already ahead of him at aged 18. If this is the case do you still think we should be selling him?

I think it is inevitable that we will, but it will not be for a couple of seasons yet. His Dad/agent knows this is the best place for him to develop.

I would snap up 20 million right away.

I wouldnt. Firstly I dont think Rodwell is as good as everyone makes out (at the momment) but equally I feel he could develop into more of a Gerrard type over time. We would all feel sick if at 24/25 he was the England Captain Marvel! On the other hand, he could end up a Tony Grant - who knows.

Also we got £24m for Lescott - blew it all on 3 players and currently lie 3 points above the relegation zone! £20m doesnt get you an awful lot these days.

We're actually as close to Man City in sixth spot, who have spent nearly 200 million on players, as we are to West Ham who are third from bottom. Add to that the horrific injury list and playing players low on confidence out of position we're not actually doing as badly as we could are we? You don't get much for £20m in today's market I agree, but lets at least give Heittinga and Billy a fuckin chance before we say we've blown the cash, christ mate, I know you love a moan, we all do it's what us Evertonians are like, but fuck me you seem to revel in it.

Seconded. Sorry, CtF but your post smacks of a man who has fuck all to moan about except what Everton are doing. When Moyes has his desired squad (not talking about players like Anichebe and Vaughn) physically fit and match fit then we can properly judge the lie of the land.

At the moment we are getting by despite the worst injury crisis that I can recall. Maybe we should just wait and see.

Well said mate. I think a lot of are feeling frustration over our current situation with the endless injuries and results that not always go our way. However, no need to panic and get all depressed about it. That's what work is for. Wink

Sensible comments - I agree with you both. sunny

I think Bilyaledinov looks very promising. Pavlechenko described him at the weekend as the 'Russian Pele' after his 2 goals for Russia so there's a lot more to see from him. Anyone seen these goals?

We'll know more about Heitenga when he takes up a regular position - hopefully right back.

I swear most of the talk is just made up by the press. 10 years ago, we'd never have seen Rodwell linked with a move away so soon. The internet has made it possible for any old tosser to make up some story out of nothing and have it gain momentum. Where as in the old days it was just a select bunch of tossers.

Jack Rodwell - Beckenbauer in err Sky Blue - Page 4 Empty Moyes speaks on Rodwell..

Post  RhinoJagz Sun 21 Feb 2010, 5:05 pm

Good read. Fuck off Red nose. Very Happy

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/e/everton/8526950.stm

Manager David Moyes believes Everton are a big enough club to keep hold of 18-year-old midfielder Jack Rodwell.
After joining the club in 2007, Rodwell has become a first team regular and impressed again with a goal in Saturday's win over Manchester United.
After selling Wayne Rooney to United in 2004, Moyes told the BBC: "We weren't ready when Wayne came on the scene.
"We're ready for Jack Rodwell and our team is good enough to carry a Jack Rodwell and keep bigger suitors away."

The teenager from Southport has been a revelation for the Toffees since signing at Goodison Park as a trainee three years ago and has made 26 appearances this season.

His first league goal of the campaign was a fine solo effort coming off the bench in Everton's convincing 3-1 win over Sir Alex Ferguson's side and followed Dan Gosling's second-half strike which sent them into eighth spot in the Premier League.
Rodwell is reported to be a £30m target for Ferguson and his performance will have done nothing to quash the speculation, but Moyes is confident his player will not follow Rooney to Old Trafford.
The Scot told BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek: "There's been quite a lot of attention towards Jack Rodwell for a while.
"But strangely enough, it was Wayne that worried me a lot more. It doesn't worry me quite so much with Jack because we've been through it before.
"The boy is going to be a good player in time but at this present time it's potential and we have to bring it along at the right pace.
"If Wayne was at Everton now I think it would be completely different. We're competing within Europe, we're trying to beat the top teams, we're at that end of the league.

Everton 'a match for any team' - Moyes

"At the time Wayne came on the scene we were fifth or sixth off the bottom so it was a completely different Everton then to what it is now."
Following back-to-back wins over league leaders Chelsea and now United, Everton are just six points away from Liverpool in fourth place, but Moyes, manager for eight years, was reluctant to start dreaming of a Champions League place.
"Obviously I'm going to try to do it but getting to the top half of the league was going to be a big achievement after the way we started," added Moyes, whose team beat Sporting Lisbon 2-1 in the first leg of the Europa League on Tuesday.
"It wasn't long ago that we were third or fourth bottom and I was looking down and a bit worried.
"Now we've got everybody fit we will try to get as far up as we can but we're coming from a long way behind."

The bigger point I suppose is that he's an extremely salable asset. And what us, as fans, would like to know (which Moyes seems to disprove here) is do we have to sell to buy? Did we have to sell Johnson & McFadden to fund Fellaini.?Did we have to sell Lescott to fund Billy, Distin & Johnny 5?

Now figures been banded around for Rodwell are in the £20m-£30m mark. Thats alot of dough for the kid with undoubtingly, alot of potential but we all hope he doesn't need to be sarcificed to fund our future spend. In fact is there any player that can command a fee you would be willing to let go to bring new players in?

Jags-Arteta-Saha-Pienaar? Not a chance..

Howard-Osman-Yobo-Yakubu? Maybe..

Ditto. Pretty sure he'll be off in summer for £4m-£5m. That should hopefully pay for Donovan, or at least a significant chunk of it. If we can't get Donovan, than at least someone of his type. Thats the one essential signing this summer.

I think I would put Howard in the not a chance category as well. I wouldnt be hugely suprised if Yobo and Yakubu moved on in the summer. I think that the Yak is a great player, when in form, but we still seem to favour a 451 formation and I dont think he will be happy being on the bench with Saha starting. Yobo has been a very good servant for us but once Jags is back he is pretty much our 4th choice centre half.

Super sub!

He's the perfect player to bring on isn't he? Strong, athletic, composed and just sheer class for someone that young. Perhaps the best way to bring him on is giving him that role in the second half to come on and take advantage of the oppo's tired legs. For me he's got everything and looks equally as good going forward. The goal at GP against Yernited and that run last night against the no marks were both ace weren't they?

Yeah, he certainly did a cracking job after coming on last night. When I saw that he was coming on for Saha, I thought it was a strange substitution to make, but IMWT.
