Brentford v Everton
Everton manager Rafael Benitez spoke to the media yesterday ahead of the trip to Brentford on Sunday.
Here are the key lines from the Toffees boss:
Benitez hopes "this game will change everything" in terms of boosting confidence and moving Everton closer to the top six
Abdoulaye Doucoure has been training and "has a chance to feature" against Brentford
Yerry Mina and Dominic Calvert-Lewin won't be fit, while Demarai Gray has only been doing some light training
On injuries, the situation seems worse with key players missing because results aren't going their way, but "the reality is that we have less injuries and we are getting better in this department"
Richarlison, who will miss Sunday's game through suspension "knows it is too early to have five yellow cards" and "needs to stay calmer in the game"
Benitez says Brentford had an impressive start to the season, but "little by little, everybody knows you better, then it's more difficult to surprise anyone".

Sadly, I'd settle for that

So, we could start the game without Ritchie, DCL, Doucoure, Gray, Mina, Allan and Gomes. I think we would struggle to beat Brentford womens team with our likely line up. I assume Condom, Iwoeful and Duffies will start? Cant see anything but a defeat without scoring a goal. Deffo one to avoid.

That's a bit sexist bubbles. But I think women's football is largely shit so allow me to join in.
For some reason I saw the highlights of Northern Ireland's women beating North Macedonia 11-0 earlier this week. What always strikes me about women's football (considering there are a lot of such one-sided massacres) is how they continue to celebrate every goal as though they've just scored a last-minute winner. In men's football, when you score the 9th goal the celebration is muted, almost a bit sheepish. Not in women's footy. The 9th Norn Iron goal resulted in a party like it's 1999, with cries of "come on!!!" and so forth.
It's odd, reminds me of junior football coaches I used to have to deal with, who used to arrange friendlies against shit teams and then bragged about the resulting 15-0 victory as though they were the reincarnation of Matt Busby.
Anyway, for some weird reason that even Arthur C Clarke wouldn't be able to explain, I can see us nicking the ugliest 1-0 win you've ever seen here. That's largely based on Brentford going off the boil a bit rather than any faith in brave Everton as a competent footballing unit. 1-0 to the Blues thanks to a Digne free kick that takes a massive deflection off the arse of some Danish defender I've never heard of.
Re: Brentford v Everton
I think the Belgian women celebrated their 19th goal v Armenia in the week by a lap of honour and booking a coach tour of Brussels. Womens football still havent solved the goalkeeping problem. Ie, stopping it going into the net. Womens keepers are generally as bad as Karius for the Shite. Not sexism, just reflecting 70s comedy with my old fashioned attitude. ...but we will still lose and would struggle to beat Armenias women.

Re: Brentford v Everton
the Burney game is off because of weather.
If their is a football god, now is the time to pray.
Snowstorm in Brentford. Now!
Snow falling here right now, so keep going until Wednesday night.
It's our only hope........

Re: Brentford v Everton
If Townsend had tried to head the ball away, then there would not have been a penalty. Simple as.
Re: Brentford v Everton
The sad thing here is that Brentford really aren't that special by any means.
Re: Brentford v Everton
More urgency from us now. Brentford with a great chance on the counter attack though.
