Everton v Villa
I have it in my head that we generally struggle against Villa. Maybe this goes back to the epic 1977 League Cup final loss - my earliest crushing disappointment as an Evertonian. Also the 6-2 twatting we received there in 1989 which, for me anyway, was the day our golden era was finally consigned to the historical dustbin.
I've just checked the stats. Since Villa came back up in 2019 we have indeed struggled - a grand total of two points from them in seven games. Prior to that, however, we'd only lost 1 in 13 against them going back to 2009. So maybe my pessimism is a little misplaced.
Villa have some good players, but of late they've leaked goals - 11 in three against City, Arsenal and Leicester. Mings is playing terribly this season and their full-backs are very attack-minded. I think there is a way to get at Villa, and in behind them, if Dyche gets the game plan right.
I've gone for 1-1 on the Tipster but I'm actually quietly confident about this one. 3 points is desperately needed here, a draw would be disappointing, we need to beat mid-table teams at home. At the same time we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that, Dyche or no Dyche, we still ain't great, and need to check our optimism a little. As ever, it comes down to who will get the goals. I fancy Onana to bag one today, at last. He's been knocking at the door in recent weeks.
COYB.

Re: Everton v Villa
We need clean sheets for the rest of the season.
We're not going to score freely, so we've got to be mean.
As usual, the crowd is important. No banners please.
If the numpties get out their banners, maybe they should read "Hey Joorabchian, Jorge Mendes - Give us the money back. Next time get us some players who can actually play football. Leaches!"

Re: Everton v Villa
Arsenal to come in midweek, then Forest away and Brentford at home before a tricky little run against Sky Six clubs (doubtless Chelsea will hit their stride just before they play us.)
So, including today I think 6 pts from 12 is a minimum requirement. 7 would be good, 8 or 9 would be outstanding. Anything less would be troublesome.
We can really do ourselves a turn by winning today.

Today is massive. I don’t share the confidence but will be delighted to be proved wrong.
That 6-2 at Villa was horrendous. I’m sure it was televised. I remember Tiny Daly taking the piss.
A few years later I went away to Villa with a mate on the train. I would have been about 15 and we didn’t have a ticket. We could only get in the Holte End. We were cruising 2-0 up with 10 mins to go. Two goals from Bob the Pole. We drew 2-2. We took a fair bit of abuse from those around us, but thankfully we were young enough not to get lamped. Maybe we would have it we’d won.
I’ve still never seen us beat Villa live.

I have, a few times. We had their number for most of the 80's. I remember a 3-0 stroll one New Years Day when I had one of the worst hangovers of my life. Luckily it was about -4C so that kept me awake and alert.
The 6-2 was actually 6-0 with about 20 minutes to go, and yes it was on the telly. I think Cottee got a couple of late goals.

In fairness, most of my games were the 90’s and early 00’s, so there are probably lots of teams I’ve never seen us beat.
My Dad was a regular in the 70’s and 80’s but didn’t take me really. Think he enjoyed the crack with the boys and a few in the alehouse too much haha.

Yeah we weren't great against Villa in the 90s.
Here's the website I use for this stuff incidentally, if you're interested. It's great. Best feature is the "on this day" league table function, which is where I got the table from above.

Lack of a striker, pure and simple. Can only really blame the board for this.

Oh wow!! That was a shit-show. There actually isnt any hope. We may scrap the odd result and fluke a goal like Seamus last week, but week in week out we will lose. Thete are no goals in the team. Nothing. Nada. Buying Mopey, selling Gordon and not replacing was as good as suicide. Fuck me that was horrible. Relegation, simple as. And Villa were 2-1 to win today!! I've won enough already on us losing games so far this season to pay for my season ticket for next season. We may win a few fucking games in the championship. (If we dump Mopey, the uselrss cunt). Fuck it, pub it is!!

Re: Everton v Villa
WE created a few chances and had no premiership quality striker to put them in. Up until now the jury was out as to whether Morepay could ake a chance or two until DCL returns.
Number 20 was dreadful. SDorry, just not PL quality.
Villa didn't show much until their pen, and the ref!!! I hope MOTD show the Doucoure booking for a none-elbow.
If you have Dwight banging in really good cross in the first half, and nobody anywhere near, then what's the point?
It has to be Dycheball.
Get YERRY FECKIN MINA up there. How much poorer can he be than number 20?

Re: Everton v Villa
Positives from today: Southampton lost (shame it was to Leeds), Bournemouth having their goal difference further screwed by City, Nottingham Forest lose so they are back in the mix (also with an awful GD). Leicester lost as well although I think they'll pull clear. Draw for Wolves yesterday.
So the other games generally went in our favour, just a shame we couldn't get at a point. Villa are much improved under Emery though, so not a surprising result.
