Right. I don't mean to be hating here, but if he didn't get a look in, I'd be fine with that.Armchair wrote:Knight of Thorgothshire wrote:Could be heading to Watford on a loan. Possibly.

It would make sense. If Doucoure, Allan and James arrive, he won't get a look in.

I think he has found his level there - Div 1 or 2.Made 4 Gwladys wrote:TWO ASSISTS FOR DAVIES IN THUMPING ENGLAND WIN

Southampton are in talks to sign 22-year-old English midfielder Tom Davies from Everton. (Talksport)
Loan deal. Makes sense to loan him out and see how he develops, as he is unlikely to get a look in with us this season.

TD: “I spoke to him he said he didn’t want me to go on loan, he saw me as an important part of the squad. To hear that from him, it puts my mind at ease. I’m grateful for the opportunities today and I have to keep working as hard now, to keep myself in the manager’s mind."

He'll need to raise his game to get a look in so staying with us might be good for his development.

It's easy to forget he's only 22... plenty of time yet to develop ... I still think he is a good prospectArmchair wrote:Made 4 Gwladys wrote:TD: “I spoke to him he said he didn’t want me to go on loan, he saw me as an important part of the squad. You know how I feel about him - I'm terrified when he's playing, especially in the CM role since he has an incredible ability to lose the ball and allowing the opposition to attack the back four.Made 4 Gwladys wrote:It's easy to forget he's only 22... plenty of time yet to develop ... Anyway, I do hope he develops in to a proper footballer, but I have my doubts.
Re: 26. Tom Davies - blue grit
OK, I promise I was not the one who started this.
The comment below from that thread (it's from Facebook) sums up my frustration with him; not getting out of the shadow of the opposing players and thus not being available to receive the ball. Oh that's he's way too negative in the ball distribution by going sideways or backwards 97% of the time. Oh and he's too slow, needs to up the tempo of the play. The game against WH was a good example of that.
M4G - enjoy.

My biggest beef with him is when we have possession, he never tries to lose his marker to get into space to keep the move going. Ball watches far too much and rarely tackles effectively. Championship player at best.
Re: 26. Tom Davies - blue grit
Davies has done a lot better as of late, even though he still, and he's not the only one, eh Gomes, who loses possession outside our 18-yard box way too often. A bit of a harsh comment from Ancelotti?

Re: 26. Tom Davies - blue grit
Everton midfielder Tom Davies has undergone successful surgery on an injured hamstring.
The 23-year-old, who was nearing a return from the knee issue that sidelined him following Everton’s draw with Tottenham Hotspur in November, sustained the hamstring problem at the end of December.
Investigations revealed a high-grade tendon injury that required surgical intervention. The procedure was carried out in London on Tuesday.
Davies, who has scored one goal in seven appearances this season, will return to USM Finch Farm to work towards his comeback under the care of Everton’s medical staff.

You worry he won't be match fit for about 3 games. Half-decent option off the bench if he's fit but not really a game-changer.

I don't think he's in the squad is he? Or does it not count because he came through the academy?

He wasn't in the squad, but did Gbamin fucking off provide an open place for him?
He looked pretty fit in the training vid on the OS, and his hair looks in excellent condition. I'd consider starting him on Sunday, as long his hair doesn't take a turn for the worse overnight.
Re: 26. Tom Davies - blue grit
We've given him a new contract. Bit of a turn up that eh?
Still, he'll be like a new signing. A shit one, but a new one.

Re: 26. Tom Davies - blue grit
Offering him a new contract shows how ill positioned we are in regards to FFP rules. I mean, why otherwise offer him a new contract?
Makes me wonder what the contract length and his salary are now at.

I think you're right - not just in relation to FFP but just generally how much cash might be available. I suspect he's seen as a cheap squaddie, despite barely getting a look in under Dyche so far.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it and maybe there is a logical reason that escapes me for the retention of Davies, but at first glance this bodes ill for our summer recruitment. But hey, never mind, we're used to relegation battles now, so we need to start spinning this positively. We are fucking elite at avoiding relegation.
The only thing I can think here, as I fight that regular fight between positivity and gloom in my own head, is that we consider ourselves to be set at CM and don't need to do anything there, and that extends to retaining the existing squaddies as well as the first-teamers. The emergence of Garner does leave us pretty strong in that area, relative to every other position (on the assumption that Onana isn't going anywhere, that is).
Anyway, Davies might turn the contract down yet.

I would settle for for him having a "lights off" clause in his new contract. Training performance strictly regulated and monitored. Personal and Social media to be minimised (his image does not look it can support valuable rights). His broadband must be switched off at 09:45 so he can read in bed (autobiographies of Messi, Robson, Gerrard and Nietzche - well he needs to be educated and improve his skillset and attitude). And critically no only shopping after 18:30

Re: 26. Tom Davies - blue grit
Several managers and for the 2 seasons following his Goal of the season against City, and especially the fans too, have given him every opportunity to shine, but we all know his weaknesses. Then we all turned on him. Maybe we've offered him a squady kind of deal, just so we have someone on the bench who isn't an academy player?Da Judge wrote:Rotterdam 1985 wrote:Knight of Thorgothshire wrote:Offering him a new contract shows how ill positioned we are in regards to FFP rules.
