Saints v The Mighty Toffees
James Rodrigues and Seamus Coleman expected to miss Sundays game through injury. Richarlison out as suspended!
Bugger, that's not good news!! I assume Godfrey, Siggo and Iwobi or Bernard will come in?

I think Carlo Anchelotti will use Bernard to replace Richarlison out wide,
Youngster Ben Godfrey will get the nod over JJK to replace Seamus,
Sigurdsson will replace James Rodreguez.
Team.

I must have missed the huge outpouring of angst on the airwaves as one of our critical players is crocked. He was fine before the Derby... so he must have been injured in a tackle during the match...

Van Dijk clobbered Hammy a couple of times early on so must have been that. I say he should be banned for the rest of the season!
Be interesting to see how we cope without Ritchie AND Hammy. Lot of creativity lost there and Ritchies pace. Siggo and Bernard decent replacements but we look a lot less dangerous going forward. Also losing Seamus's overlapping on the right. Would anyone go with Gordon in for Ritchie? He looked good in the Caribou Cup.

Oct 22: "Unfortunately, James had a problem during the game [vs LFC]. He had a mistimed tackle with van Dijk at the beginning. I think he will not be available."
Dick van Dyke should be given a retrospective RED I reckon !

Carlo - “He had a mistimed tackle with Virgil van Dijk at the beginning of the game and I think he will not be available for the game against Southampton."
I can't recall the VVD thump on Jimmy. I think I was making a cup of tea to get me through the first half.

The one that must have hurt was in the very first minute. A deliberate old-style reducer, which, by the way, I have no real problem with. That's the football I grew up with. If you can get away with it, good for you. I rather admire the dark arts of football, the Atletico Madrid stuff. Watching David Weir, as a former centre back myself, was weirdly enjoyable. No player that slow can survive in the Prem for so long without having plenty of reducers in his locker. And with most of the best players in the world now concentrated in so few clubs, I'm sorry but the rest of us aren't going to stand by and admire them running rings around us.
So it just fucks me off a bit, therefore, when that lot constantly complain to 606, Radio Merseyside, Parliament, the UN, the Nicky Campbell Show, the Financial Services Ombudsman, the poor fucking barman down their local, Liverpool City Council and any total stranger stupid enough to make eye contact with them when one of theirs gets hurt while playing what is, the last time I checked, a contact sport. Anyone remember the Ramos/Salah thing? They have plenty of previous, the whiny over-entitled clagnuts.

Yeah I would. I like watching Bernard but watching Bernard is a bit like watching a porno with your mates - enjoyable with some highlight-reel action from time to time but no, err, end product. Also he's a confidence player, and I don't think his confidence will be high simply because he's not in the first 11. I worry about his decision-making in and around the box, shades of Walcott, he should be scoring more goals than he does. 4 goals in 61 appearances. Even allowing for a good few of them being as sub, that's not enough.
Iwobi, I like a little bit more than most on this board, it would appear, but only a little bit, still got reservations about him.
I'm not someone who goes all misty-eyed about home-grown players but I do like Gordon, he's looked like a Prem player since the first time I saw him play. He's got plenty of energy and a bit of creativity, and isn't weighed down by baggage like Iwobi (and Bernie to a lesser extent.) I just want to keep this run going, now is not the time to indulge players who might need a few games to get some confidence going. Southampton's weakness is their carthorses at centre back so pick Gordon and let him cut in from the left and cause them problems.
He'll pick Iwobi though. And Siggy in for James.

Re: Saints v The Mighty Toffees
Saints are nothing special so a win is not out of the question. Ings is guaranteed to score but Allan and Doucoure make us a lot stronger in midfield and will release Siggo to be more creative. Think there will be goals both ends and can see us nicking it, but 2-2 looks a good bet. Should be entertaining and hopefully we will stay top for a little while longer.

Ings is shit-hot though isn't he? Proper old school finisher, does fuck all except score. Like Charlie Austin but with a full set of knee ligaments.
So, "staying top" scenarios...even if we lose, only two teams can go above us this weekend:
1. Villa play Friday night, Leeds at home, and will go top on goal difference with a draw. So we'll know what we need to do to stay top by the time we play on Sunday. We just need to match Villa's result, unless....
2. ...the Shite beat Sheffield United on Saturday and there's a 7-goal GD swing. Since they came up, Sheffield United haven't conceded more than three in a game, so although they've had a ropey start, and while the Shite have it in them to take a team to the cleaners, it's far from guaranteed.
So the Shite will still be staring up at our arses whatever happens, if we avoid defeat.
Re: Saints v The Mighty Toffees
Bollocks to worrying about staying top. We should be taking three points here, and the rest takes care of itself. The last few seasons we'd be going into this thinking a draw would be ok, but no more.
With Hamez and Richarlison out, I see this as the perfect test to gauge how much we really have improved. I don't see James playing every game for a full season, so an away game against a decent, but not top team, will be a good indicator as to how strong the squad is.
It'll be Siggi for James, and Iwobi for Richie. I've seen signs of a potential from Iwobi in the last few games, you'd fucking hope so for £35m, but maybe in a more confident squad, he'll be a decent option for us.
Anyway, Saints 3 (Danny Wallace 3) - Blues 6 (DCL 3, Wayne Clark, Stuart Barlow and Ray Atteveld)

On Monday the specialist informed Carlo Anchelotti James Rodrieguez would be out one week,
Today In his press conference Anchelotti says James trained this week and could be considered to start Southampton game.
And so it begins. Lazarus rises from the depths of Injury.
