Everton - Sevilla
The OS Facebook site is showing the game live.
We are up 1-0, not sure who scored since I just started watching.

Re: Everton - Sevilla
Klaassen has a decent touch at times, but he's not part of the game at all really. Worrying.
Re: Everton - Sevilla
We are lacking in creativity across the middle of the park.
Great to see the tempo is pretty high though, it's just not a friendly.

Re: Everton - Sevilla
Rooney - Schneiderlin - Klaassen have good triangle play but when Klaassen tries to pick a pass he just can't get it done. If he's indeed the creative midfielder we have been looking for, we probably need to keep on looking.
Re: Everton - Sevilla
HT, 1-0, Sandro scored after 30 seconds. Not enough ball possession and creativity.

How did we play? The scoreline is encouraging at least.

Re: Everton - Sevilla
I thought we looked decent but ultimately I think the result was "lucky". They were no mugs and at times we had a hard time getting hold of the ball. I didn't get to watch more than about half because I was grilling , but I thought they were the better side.Armchair wrote:Knight of Thorgothshire wrote:Should mentioned btw that the Everton FC Facebook live feed was spectactular. We didn't create much in the middle of the park with the anticipated starters, and that's worrying to me. I don't really want to single out any players, but Klaassen had some great triangle play passes with Rooney and Schneiderlin, but he can't complete a pass when he has to think. If he's supposed to be the creative midfield general, we are in for a rude awakening based on (the little) I have seen.
Rooney is class, albeit slow, but you can see his composure on the ball, easily finding a free player to pass to. He's going to need help though when it comes to creating something from the midfield.
Schneiderlin was too much a sideways passer (again) - think Barry. I'd like to see him looking upfield more.
The defence looked pretty good I thought, even though we were burned a couple of times due to lightning Sevilla speed.
I think the Europa League games and this friendly were good for us before the start of the season.
Re: Everton - Sevilla
Thanks Thor. Klaassen didn't look good against the Slovaks so I'm not surprised to hear he struggled against Sevilla. Hopefully he's just suffering from 'new team nerves' and settles into things soon.

Re: Everton - Sevilla
Thought we struggled again today took an. early lead through Sandro but spent the next 70 minutes chasing the game, no closing down on Benega for the first goal, Gareth Barry clumsy in giving a away a penalty 1-2 which was actually on the edge of the area,Savilla lucky with that one, Jonjoe Kenny came on as did Lookman both linked up well finally gave us some pace up front,Equaliser by Kevin Mirallas penalty justified a score draw, Koeman needs to bring in some pace and get a target man, Rooney and Ramirez not going to replace Lukaku. Rebuilding process continues.
Re: Everton - Sevilla
I have watched Adrian Guaye and Morgan Schniderlin for a while now, I don't think they can play together always in each other's way. Cucu Martins seems to play better on the left than on the right.
Re: Everton - Sevilla
I'm with Thor on a lot of that - especially the quality of the Facebook feed... if only they'd stream every match.
My main concern is Klaassen. He looked very, very ordinary - and that's being kind to him. Rooney, as Thor says, is still class, and Keane and Pickford are simply terrific signings. Hard to say if Sandro will be a hit or not, he looks good but he does do quite a lot of headless chicken stuff. We looked loads better when Martina came on for Baines, and Kenny for Holgate, especially with Mirallas and Lookman in front of them. Of course by then Sevilla had made a few subs themselves. Before that we were totally outclassed. Sevilla were excellent, light years ahead of us in just about every department.
I enjoyed the game, it didn't feel like a friendly and was a good run-out for the lads. We need new signings quickly, though it's probably already too late for the start of the season and the horrific run of games we face. To be honest (if a bit pessimistic), I can see us getting knocked out by Hadjuk Split.
