37 - James Garner - future engine room
not a striker is he ???
Everton close to signing Man Utd's Garner
Everton are closing in on signing of Manchester United midfielder James Garner.
A deal for the 21-year-old, who spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest last season, is progressing well and should be finalised before tomorrow's deadline
It is believed Garner would cost around £15M

If he's better than McNeil (not difficult) then sounds good. Just Gueye and another forward to go and we will at least have a chance of surviving. Anyone seen much of him. What sort of player is he? Please tell me he's quick and can pick a pass! (And not be lying lol)

Re: 37 - James Garner - future engine room
I think this would be a great signing. Young, very talented, looks like he has the lot. Not sure why Man Utd are getting rid of him, but I reckon he'd be a great addition for us.
Midfielders (when fit): Onana, Garner, Gana, Iwobi, Doucoure, Davies. Get rid of Gomes obviously. Iwobi of course can play further up the pitch if needs be. It would be a good balance of experience and youth. And who wouldn't want a soundalike midfield three of Gana Garner Onana?
Might mean Warrington going out on loan again, but Lampard was hinting at that anyway.
One fly in the ointment - he and all his family are RS from Birkenhead. Hope they don't influence him to go to Leicester instead of us.

Nicking this from Twitter, but if we were to sign Kudus then our midfield could consist of a lad from Ghana, Garner, Gana and Onana.
Any chance of getting hold of Fofana as well?
Not sure I've ever seen James Garner play but everything I read about him, people are bigging him up. So, yes please, keep 'em coming, those blokes who are quite good at football.
Re: 37 - James Garner - future engine room
Hmmm. Good if we get him, but with a buy-back clause?
Fuck it, that would be a problem for another day. At the moment we get who we can get.

Unusually for me, I have Transfer Deadline Day fever. I haven't done any work for two hours, I've just been refreshing the same websites and Twitter accounts over and over.
I might even have Sky Sports News on tomorrow night. Deadline day on Sky Sports is usually more enjoyable when it's really quiet, because you can see the desperation in the presenters' eyes, praying for something to happen. They usually have to lower themselves to bigging up non-news as news - "BREAKING: WANKSOCK DOS SANTOS JOINS CHESTERFIELD ON LOAN." Great fun.

Nah I'm talking about last knockings mate, the witching hour, 10pm till 11pm, when in utter desperation they go back to Alan Myers standing outside Finch Farm with a dildo being shoved in his head while he confirms for the 15th time that evening that they're not expecting any activity from Everton.
There was one year where the reporter outside one place (might have been Palace) confirmed that all the lights have been switched off and that everyone looks to have gone home. They still went back to him half an hour later.

Looking like this one could happen today. Can't pretend I know anything about him so off to youtube for me...

Me too.
Honestly, I try not to go overboard over youtube vids. But based on this, there's a lot to like. Particularly his tackling, his body strength, his drive (looks like he could be a proper number 8, box to box), his balance when in possession, and his passing ability. He doesn't look slow either.
Must be too good to be true at the price we're paying, but I think we could be getting a player here.
Re: 37 - James Garner - future engine room
Looks like this is done. I'm on my phone while having a shit so I can't link anything, but it's all over Twitter that this will be £9m plus £6m in add-ons, no buy back clause, 20% of any future fee.
A quick sweep of comments suggests that United fans are not happy about this.

Re: 37 - James Garner - future engine room
Now give me Brereton Diaz for 15 mil and I'll sign that off as a decent transfer window.
Re: 37 - James Garner - future engine room
Totally agree. If we can get Diaz too and offload Gomes and Rondon we will have had a bloody good window

He does look rather handy doesn’t he. Can pick a pass from the rear third of the pitch, too, which suits us down to a T as sitting very deep and hitting teams on the counter is our gig right now.
Re: 37 - James Garner - future engine room
Nothing announced on Sky or BBC though

Doesn’t sound like we’re adding a striker either

Re: 37 - James Garner - future engine room
Never believe it 100% until it's on the OS. But this was from the BBC 5 mins ago...
"A deal for Manchester United's James Garner is moving forward to a successful conclusion at Everton."
No real noise about a forward though.

Sky saying that’s our lot for this window, so it looks like I’ll be starting up front on Saturday
Re: 37 - James Garner - future engine room
welcome
9 Million (BBC source) seems like good business for this guy

If hes better than Davies and McNeil (not difficult) hes fine by me. Shame about no forward though. Gonna be a long season

Re: 37 - James Garner - future engine room
Sounds like a good signing potentially. Are we maybe getting carried away if we think he's ready to come into the first team already though?
