Chelsea: Sorry, we meant that we'd double your salary!
Onana: Everwho? Gives us that pen Todd!

Re: 8 - Amadou Onana - he's HUGE !
There are rumours afoot that both ManUre and the Newky Brown Saudis are sniffing around Onana and that we're holding out for £70m.
Probably the usual internet guff. But just out of interest - assuming we stay up, what would you rather have, Onana in the team next season or £70m in the bank?
Let's also assume for arguments sake that most or all of that money was made available for investment in new signings, rather than disappearing down the back of Bill's sofa.

Who is making the calls now on transfers, specifically the ones coming in? Dyche? I would probably feel a bit better about taking the money if someone sensible was involved in making the decisions, rather than wasting £15M, or whatever it was, on players like Maupay.Rotterdam 1985 wrote:There are rumours afoot that both ManUre and the Newky Brown Saudis are sniffing around Onana and that we're holding out for £70m.

I’d prefer to keep hold of Onana, no question.

Re: 8 - Amadou Onana - he's HUGE !
Take the money. He's a classy player, but he'd be better surrounded by equally classy players because he doesn't actually do that much. I mean, what he does, he does really well, but it's all quite simple and tidy. If he stays with us, he's going to disappoint because he's not a scrapper. All that cheerleader stuff is lovely, but I'd rather have him playing football, not waving his arms around.
Anyway, I doubt we'll get anywhere near £70m, but he's not really an Everton type player in the current circumstances. Next season we'll either be in the Championship, where he'll look like a fur coat in a turd factory, or battling relegation again in the Premier League, and we'll need players who get stuck in for 90 minutes in midfield.
Sell him to a team who have other top players and he'll thrive.

I think I agree. Certainly on the money - no way is he a £70m player (yet) unless someone like Newcastle wanted to make some kind of ridiculous power move this summer, similar to when City overpaid (in my opinion) for Lescott. He's probably in the Gordon £45m range right now.
I probably agree on his ability and contribution as well. The right player in the wrong team. Don't get me wrong, I think he's really good and will only get better, but he may be a luxury we can ill afford right now when we have obvious quality issues elsewhere.
Would be very sad to see him go but if (big if) the money were put to good use on the squad then perhaps it wouldn't be in vain. I think we should spend the proceeds on Mo Farah and Giant Haystacks as a dominant, complementary new central midfield combo.

Re: 8 - Amadou Onana - he's HUGE !
I’m in the ‘keep’ camp. The Jan transfer window showed us how few players actually want to join us, so why ditch one of the better ones we have in the hope we’ll spend the money well or mosh won’t just pocket it and run. We all know he’ll be a proper player, too.
Re: 8 - Amadou Onana - he's HUGE !
Manchester United are considering a move for Belgium midfielder Amadou Onana, 21, and are waiting on Everton's valuation.

As the going rate for young midfielders now seems to be around £100m, I'd take a massive offer for him right now. I thought this was the season he'd kick on and really dominate games, but there was absolutely no sign of that against Fulham. He's not going to be with us for long anyway, and the longer he stays the less he'll be worth I reckon. £70m with add-ons, I'd gift-wrap him and have him delivered.
Re: 8 - Amadou Onana - he's HUGE !
Liverpool look to be paying £60 million for Romeo Lavia who I’ve literally never seen play. But he must be shite as Southampton were relegated. So defo £90m for Onana.

All over the media - one fucking keyboard warrior, who may or may not actually be an Evertonian, and we're making the headlines. Like one fucking Fulham fan from the middle east having a pop at Maupay last week.
We have some utter bellends at Everton, but no more than any other club, and we all get tarred and feathered because of some anonymous shit they post online.
The club says fuck all, week in week out, but are the fastest in the world when it comes to condemning the fans before the truth is confirmed.

Yep. I hate to use the phrase "mainstream media" because it's usually the preserve of "wake up sheeple" conspiracy theory cranks. Or Trump supporters.
But a combination of pressures from social media and the need to fill rolling 24-hour news services has resulted in the tabloidisation of many "serious" news outlets, including the BBC. The Guardian is also particularly bad for this. They're now more interested in clicks and attention in a crowded marketplace than actual news and facts.
I actually think it might be counter-productive. I suppose they would get battered if they didn't report this, but the solo anonymous tosspot who said this to Onana is probably loving the attention it's got, and is highly unlikely to be identified and prosecuted. So it's just likely to drive copycat behaviour IMO.

however the cynic in me says it's largely aimed to deflect us from the fact that we haven't fucking well signed anyone apart from an old bloke, a kid who's just out of nursery, an injured bloke, and a bloke who'd rather sit on the Spuds bench than play for us....
Where is Beto ???? ... Gnonto.??? ... even fucking Adams.... where !!!!!!!!
