21 - Andre Gomes - Portuguese Dog of War
Welcome (for a season). He should add some class to central midfield.

Much needed class.Armchair wrote:Welcome (for a season). He should add some class to central midfield.
Makes me wonder what Rooney is currently thinking...
Re: 21 - Andre Gomes - Portuguese Dog of War
Gomes has been given No8 ... hopefully that means we intend him to be longer term than just a loan

Re: 21 - Andre Gomes - Portuguese Dog of War
Any word on when he will be available for selection? We need a shake up in the middle of the park, hopefully he can fit that role.

Due to start training with the squad next week, according to Marco Silva. So, assuming he doesn't have another setback, we should expect him to be ready to play in a few weeks?

Gomez and McCarthy both back training next week, think we miss Coleman more,Kenny puts in a lot crosses but? Sadly too slow getting back.

I'm actually starting to think it might be McCarthy we're missing. He isn't the greatest footballer but he does have some of that Peter Reid fire about him. We haven't really got anyone who can close down quickly and get right in the face of the opposition in our midfield. I just hope he recovers mentally, that's the big problem after an injury like that for a player like McCarthy. Maybe a midfield of Gana, McCarthy and Bernard, behind Walcott, Richarlison and... um... unfortunately we don't have a number 9 at the club who is above Championship level, but let's say Tosun for the moment.... would be worth trying? Siggi is not doing it for me, we need someone else in that number 10 position. Bernard has played it supposedly, even though his favoured position is left wing I think. Anyway, he does seem to make things happen when he's on the pitch, like a poundland Eden Hazard maybe.

Don't think so considering that we have Davies playing there now.Gravy & Chips wrote:I just hope the fans don't expect too much from Gomes

Fuck me.... £89m release clause. Can't we just keep loaning him for £2.5m each year?

The buy out fee is put in to warn clubs off their players. If the club wants to sell and player wants to leave it will have little impact on the transfer fee. I read somewhere that Mina had a €100m buyout clause in his contract.

Re: 21 - Andre Gomes - Portuguese Dog of War
Regardless of what it costs, I think we all agree we need to get him signed up ASAP. He's absolute quality. He's also the kind of player who will increase the value of the rest of the team. By that I mean he turns headless chickens into accomplished looking footballers. Maybe we can recoup some of the transfer fee by selling the headless chickens at an inflated rate in 6 months.

Would be a great signing. I'd be surprised if he signs though; given the standard of our performances, he should be playing for a better team.
