Fucking hell we look dreadful again. The new boy gives away a pen with his first touch and, defensively, we're all over the shop in the first 10 mins. Should be 0-2 already. The one bright spot is Barkley has been brilliant so far.

Looking a little bit better now. Nice touch from Gana/Guaye in the box, and Barkley still looking lively.

Gana looking pretty good to be fair. Definitely seems to be an upgrade on McCarthy, and possibly even Besic

Good skills from Foo wins us a penalty. Barkley picks up the ball, hits it well, but a great save from the gk.

To be brutally honest, I wouldn't be sorry to see the back of anyone in the current Everton team. We look pretty shit. I blame Martinez, this was a decent side before he got hold of it. I reckon Koeman should be looking just to get through the season as best he can, then completely overhaul the squad next year.

Espanyol have a week longer til their season starts but they look sharper, better organised, and more energetic than us.

Bag of fucking shite. Absolutely nothing to feel optimistic about. Well, I suppose at least martinez has fucked off and we won't have to listen to his utter shite after every game.
