I'd play Basic ahead of Rondonhairy cataract wrote:Da Judge wrote:Tonteau wrote:hairy cataract wrote:Made 4 Gwladys wrote:Everton have switched sights to Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Mohamed Camara after hitting an impasse in talks for Idrissa Gana Gueye, reports the Daily Mail.
The Blues were thought to be at an advanced stage with a deal to bring back their former midfielder Gueye.
But Everton have been unable to find a mutual agreement with Paris St Germain and the 32-year-old so have now switched their attention to Camara, a 22-year-old Mali international.
Right, I've done in-depth scouting on this one (well, the first 60 seconds of a YouTube bideo) and two things spring to mind: Firstly, he'd probably do okay in League One, and secondly if we do sign him we need to hide the fucking pies, he's a bit roly poly to say the least.
I've done at least 3 and a half minutes of youtube scouting and he could be good but there was something about him that suggests he could also be the next Mohamed Besic.
@M4G…. Thoughts,….
Please don't get him started

This must be the longest transfer in history to close ... if it does.... which I have serious doubts about

Am I the only who's not overly enthusiastic about him signing for us again?
Re: 27 - Idrissa Gana Gueye - Idris Elbows!!
he's a good player but getting on I suppose... 2 seasons left ?Knight of Thorgothshire wrote:Am I the only who's not overly enthusiastic about him signing for us again?
personally I'd rather we targeted strikers... we have so many midfielders now it's getting silly.
Up front we have one striker... DCL who is glass and will take time to get fit
Note: not sure we can consider Maupay & Rondon as serious strikers IMHO
..and of course as Yank says..... Simms

I have no doubts about signing him again. I don't expect him to be the same player that left us, but he was still good enough to start about 40% of PSG's games last season, and he fills a need.
Also, we just need bodies. We're thin for quality so we need some depth and options. An injury crisis would finish us off.
There's no guarantee that he'll play every game. I often see comments like "what about Iwobi?" when we're looking to sign midfielders. It's not 1982 anymore, it's not all about the first XI, PL teams no longer go through a season only using 15 or 16 players. I know we're not in Europe but imagine if we somehow went on a run in both cups? This season, when games are packed together because of the World Cup? That would stretch a thin squad.
Also we can use five subs now. We didn't use any on Tuesday, for reasons that only Frank will know, but it's a fair assumption that he didn't trust anyone on the bench to not lower the level of play. Other teams will be making full use of that rule to keep players fresher and more fit. We need to do the same, we can't afford such avoidable disadvantages.
So yeah, we should be signing as many players as our budget will allow, especially in positions where we're a bit short, and especially if they're free or coming in for a nominal fee, as Gueye would be.
And there ends the case for the defense.
Re: 27 - Idrissa Gana Gueye - Idris Elbows!!
He's a class player even at his age. Imagine being able to bring him on with 25 minutes left sitting on a one-goal lead, we've missed having anything like this quality for a while.

Yeah good shout.

Sky Sports News' transfer expert Lyall Thomas:
"The deal is done and we are just waiting on an announcement for this one. I think PSG’s pursuit of a new midfielder, which finally landed them Fabian Ruiz yesterday, was part of the hold up. They had other deals to do."

Idrissa Gana Gueye has rejoined Everton from Paris Saint-Germain for an undisclosed fee, the midfielder signing a two-year contract until the end of June 2024.
The Senegal international returns to Merseyside after spending three years with the Blues from 2016 to 2019, making 108 appearances and forging a reputation as one of the Premier League’s best defensive midfielders.
Gana left Goodison Park for Paris Saint-Germain in July 2019 and, during his three years in the French capital, won two league titles, four domestic cups and finished runner-up to Bayern Munich in the 2020 Champions League final.

Good signing. Never really replaced him. Alhough I think Onana, though young, has a bit about him.
Re: 27 - Idrissa Gana Gueye - Idris Elbows!!
Apparently Arse were interested and he told PSG I will only go to Everton

Very impressive stats v Citeh yesterday.. Frank seems to always replace IGG with Duke late in games... when we need him most... and I reckon that has cost us points... If he was still in DM position against Wolves for example, there's no way that 95th minute goal would have happened... IMO
One player who was Everton’s unsung hero in the heart of the team at the Etihad this afternoon was Idrissa Gana Gueye – the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder who reunited with the Toffees in a move back to Merseyside this summer.
Over his 78-minute performance, the talented Senegalese ace delivered the assist for Gray’s goal, made two key passes, completed 100% of his passes accurately and won 100% of his aerial duels, as well as completing two clearances, two interceptions and blocking one shot on goal.

Senegal went out of the AFCON on pens tonight, so Idrissa should be back for the weekend.
Re: 27 - Idrissa Gana Gueye - Idris Elbows!!
According to a new claim from Football Insider, Everton will have to let Idrissa Gueye leave on a free transfer this summer for financial reasons. The Merseysiders are "not likely to activate the one-year extension clause" that exists in his original deal, hoping instead to clear his £80,000-a-week (over £4m a year) off the books.

No one else will offer him £80k/week at his age. Well, maybe one of the Saudi teams.
I'd offer him a new contract but at a lower wage. He's still a good player.
