9. Arouna Kone - the curse of the 9 shirt and a bad haircut
Arouna Kone has expressed his wish to leave Wigan and issued a come and get me plea
That will be good news to Everton and a few other clubs.
Will Roberto Martinez have an influence on his destination?
Arouna said:"You always have ambitions as a footballer, and I don't intend to play in the English second division.
"Wigan have gone down, which is a real shame. It's up to them to set out their stance about my situation. I aim to play for one of the best clubs in England, and I hope I will get the chance."
"I've had plenty of approaches. I can't reveal the names of the clubs. But Crystal Palace have gone up, and from the moment a club is in the Premier League that is good for me.
"I'm under contract with Wigan for two more years. But if there is an offer that is good for both me and Wigan I will seek to leave."

We need a better striker than him, maybe Bone but we can't afford him unless Felli goes

I always find its a bit dodgie looking to buy African players nearing their thirties when in-fact their more than likely nearing their forty's ? Yakubu
Don't rate the Wigan lad. As for paying 5/6 million, would prefer we put a couple more mill and got a proven striker .

he's fucking shite
a release clause is normally set at 3 times the value to put people off ... that makes him a 2.2M asset at best

Hope not, but then again, if it is a squad striker and cover in defence isn't bad if we can keep the rest of the squad together

Re: 9. Arouna Kone - the curse of the 9 shirt and a bad haircut
I wonder who are "fringe" players may be?
Kone has made it clear that he is looking to follow Martinez to Merseyside, and that puts Wigan on the spot.
They will stick to the letter of the clause in his contract and ask for the cash immediately.
Martinez and the Toffees' chairman Bill Kenwright will have to come with the cash in one ‘hit’ and are trying to raise those funds.
Everton may offer Wigan a player in exchange as a sweetener, as Coyle is an admirer of some of their fringe performers.

2001–2002 Rio Sport 30 (17)
2002–2003 Lierse 32 (11)
2003–2005 Roda 63 (27)
2005–2007 PSV 53 (21)
2007–2012 Sevilla 40 (1)

2012– Wigan Athletic 33 (11)
If you ignore the 5 years at Sevilla (where he must have been a real bit-part player) it is not a bad record I suppose. 11 goals for a shit Wigan team (who was their manager again?) is a decent haul.

Hopefully Martinez won't be Moyes. I mean, if Naismith was played in his proper position, he would be at Real Madrid by now.

Re: 9. Arouna Kone - the curse of the 9 shirt and a bad haircut
Again, nothing to get really worked up about here. Thought he looked decent for Wigan all season. Scored just as much as Vic, Nais & Jelly all together last season? Fee is a bit high but if Alcatraz comes in free as well then its ok. We need to add depth to the squad and these two will do ok for starters.
Martinez will need some one will a bit of star quality thought to get us really up for the season.
