Re: Everton vs Brighton
Right then. Brighton at home, 3pm, Saturday.
Hard to know what to write about this. Brighton haven’t won in 4 games but they’re still 7th in the table. We’ve won 4 from the last seven and could make it three wins in the spin for the first time in… well, too long.
Two teams with different approaches to the beautiful game. They could easily tear us a new one but equally you wouldn’t put it past us to win. Guess it depends how well each of us does our job. We absolutely got it spot in the crucial away game last season, however that day absolutely everything thing went right for us, so hard to really take that as an indication we can do it again. Team wise, would be nice to see Patterson starting as a mobile team like Brighton could exploit Young’s lack of pace.
Let’s have it then, 2-1 to the blues. Two good goals and an absolute set piece scramble to win it for us!

We've won five out of seven, Tonts. Five. Hope you got someone else to do the scoring at darts?
I know mate, we win so often these days, it's hard to keep count.
And I believe 1901 was the last time we won three in a row (Royal Engineers, Corinthian Casuals and Huyton Nunnery. My grandad was at all the games).
A couple of interesting observations from checking our H2H record against Brighton - now I know we're all still a bit scarred by our 4-1 drubbing by them last year. The season before, they beat us 3-2 at GP, a fortnight before Rafa got binned. Keane, Godfrey, Holgate and Kenny all played in that game - actually they all started - and Rondon was our option from the bench while chasing a late equaliser. Just in case anyone truly doubts whether we've moved on or not personnel-wise. Looking at that team, and that manager, and what that manager was doing at that time (Digne on the bench!!!) is horrific, like looking at old photos of an ex who ran off with your best mate and took your favourite coffee mug and collection of Panini sticker books with her when she left. Multiple levels of distress.
Also, Brighton retain only three starters from that game, which was played less than two years ago; Veltman, Webster and Lallana. The unfortunate Enock Mwepu had to retire last year due to a heart condition. The other seven starters, Brighton have sold since that game for a combined sum of £188m (well over £200m when add-ons are taken into account). Just how well-run are those fuckers and how do they do it? The government really ought to put Brighton in charge of our railways and water companies. They'll have all the sewage diverted towards, I dunno, Wales, within two weeks.
Anyway, I agree that this could finish 5-1 or 0-4. So I'll sit on the fence and go with Everton 6 (DCL 3, Harrison, Tarko, Maupay OG) Brighton 6 (Ferguson 3, Fati, Veltman, Maupay OG).

We've defended pretty well and look threatening on the break.

17% possession and ahead 1-0. It’s like the opposite of being managed by Roberto Martinez.

Re: Everton vs Brighton
Shame, we've basically limited them to the Lewis Dunk disallowed goal and his freekick.

I would have taken a point before kick off. Typical performance really - sit back and hit the oppo on the break. Probably a fair result in the end.

Re: Everton vs Brighton
Would have taken a draw before kick off but feel like Everton have dropped 2 points there. The goal Brighton scored was a freak OG but I think Young should have been subbed before that. It was a decent defensive display and another point on the board.

Re: Everton vs Brighton
Brighton's Pascal Gross: "We were the better team for the whole 90 minutes. We tried to play active football. We came here to play football. They played for a result from the first minute. We approached the game differently. I'm proud of the boys for keep going."

He can fuck off. We had this with Martinez. What's the point of all that possession if you only end up drawing with a team you're being condescending about after the game?
"They played for a result from the first minute" - yeah, what's wrong with that? Knob.
Anyway, I feel a bit disappointed that we only drew with Brighton. That in itself is another little reminder that we're making progress.

Maybe it requires successive relegation battles for us to be more prosaic about such matters. I too consider myself something of a football purist when times are good, I like to see good football being played. But we cannot afford beauty contest stuff right now, we're having to battle. I think Pascal Gross should be querying why they made so little use of 80% possession (as we used to under Bobby) rather than bemoaning the playing style of the opposition.
