28 - Youssef Chermiti
Out of the blue, this one.
He's only a kid, but he's a striker. He's 6' 4". I genuinely don't know if this is a proper striker, ready to go, or someone who'll be dumped into the U21s and then loaned out to Shrewsbury for two seasons.

Sporting signed Viktor Gyökeres, who we were allegedly after, so we're getting the player he replaced?

Not quite. This is a kid, he's only just turned 19 and he only played 16 games for them. And this may not be a simple case of Sporting replacing a striker with a better striker - it could be that they have to let some players go to balance their books having broken their own transfer record.
On the flip side, why did they buy Gyokeres when they already had this lad? It does suggest to me that this fella is raw and not ready. So I'll be surprised, to say the least, if this boy is the striker we're looking for with this season in mind. I'm hoping that this is one of two incoming - bring in a kid with potential, and also someone with some experience.
Re: 28 - Youssef Chermiti
Here's a bideo. And this is the kind of montage I wanted to see - not some youtube clip of him banging in shots and goals to a hip hop soundtrack, but a video of a striker we might buy doing basic striker stuff - running the channels, holding the ball up, using his body strength, bringing midfielders into the game.
Can't judge anyone properly on a two minute video clip but this gives me the feel of someone who is raw, but does proper striker things. Given that we've all forgotten what that looks like outside of DCL's occasional cameos, that's something at least.

Re: 28 - Youssef Chermiti
Based on the video, and the fact that he is not Neal Maupay, we should definitely sign him.

Re: 28 - Youssef Chermiti
I won't believe it till it's over the line... but on the assumption that it may happen, I hate to be the killjoy but ...
...three league goals in 21 appearances in all competitions in the portuguese leagues is rather underwhelming.
that said he has to better than Maupeydick.... and less likely to break like DCL... so he's probably already our first choice... even though he hasn't signed yet.

- Anyone got a pen ?

This seems like a Moise Kean type deal and if he's half as successful as him, then, well...

Re: 28 - Youssef Chermiti
Sign him. Don’t care who he is or how good he is, just need bodies right now.
Re: 28 - Youssef Chermiti
Allegedly he’s been taken by surprise that he’d being linked with us (he had no idea) and he’d like to stay and fight for his place at Sporting.
So there is that as well.
So there is that as well.

Here's a more traditional bideo making him look like an absolute world-beater

Looks like there are a good few U21 goals sprinkled in there. But it did appear that his three league goals were shown on repeat about five times each, thus giving us the 15-goals-a-season striker that we so crave.
Re: 28 - Youssef Chermiti
Don't really understand this move if it's true. Why not just go with Tom Cannon?

Re: 28 - Youssef Chermiti
Of the three senior goals I’ve seen, two are excellent and one is a rick from the keeper. I’m 100% on board with this transfer, he’s a prospect but a very good one. It’s what the likes of Brighton do all the time and we all say “why don’t we unearth a gem like Brighton do” only they also sign other players and aren’t absolutely desperate for a striker so it makes fewer headlines.

I agree. He'll probably turn out to be Niasse II for us, but at least he looks exciting. I predict he'll come on as a sub, score a worldie, get a song made up for him by the Street End, then be utter dog-shit until he picks up a career defining injury, at which point he'll run down his contract before making a miraculous recovery and leading the line at Barcelona until he retires at 40.
They don't call me Mystic Hairy for nothing.
Re: 28 - Youssef Chermiti
I've just what his dad said: "“Yes, we were informed that Sporting agreed a deal in principle to transfer Youssef. Now, we will calmly analyze the proposal that Everton has just presented to us.”
Ain't no way this is happening. Anyone who "calmly analyzes" a proposal from Everton will not so calmly run in the opposite direction.

Re: 28 - Youssef Chermiti
“They spent how-fucking-much and have been in back-to-back relegation battles? And why are they offering £400 a week and 20 bags of something called “Everton mints””

There is only one thing worse than a fathergettingg involved in the contractual negotiations (remember Lukaku) and that would the mother getting involved.

Dyche was talking about this lad during his press conference so it must be pretty close.

Youssef Chermiti has signed for Everton from Sporting Clube de Portugal for an undisclosed fee, the striker agreeing a four-year contract until the end of June 2027.
The 6ft 3in Portugal Under-19s international becomes the Blues’ third summer signing after Ashley Young and Arnaut Danjuma and will wear the number 28 shirt.
Chermiti joined Sporting CP’s academy in 2016 and rose through the ranks, making his senior debut for the Lisbon giants in January this year in a 2-2 league derby draw at city rivals Benfica.
His first start followed two weeks later as the exciting talent set up a goal in a 5-0 home win against SC Braga, and he took little time to get on the scoresheet himself, scoring in his next two matches at Rio Ave and against Porto.
After moving to Merseyside, Chermiti told evertontv: “It's a big move for me. Joining Everton is a new beginning, a new page and I'm very happy to be here. It is a beautiful city and a beautiful club.
“I'm looking forward to meeting the fans, my new teammates and to get to work with the coach. I want to embrace everything about the Club.
“I have new goals now. I'm here and I want to do my best for Everton. I want to help the team. I hope the fans will like me and I want to show them what I am capable of.
“Everton is a big club. A lot of legends have played here. I couldn't turn down this opportunity. It's a big moment for me and now I'm fully focused to get to work."

Re: 28 - Youssef Chermiti
A striker
Hopefully he's ready for the first team because we need him.
Watching his interview, he looked very young and shy. Spoke reasonable English. It made me wonder how much we do as a club to help these young lads settle in e.g. do their family come over with them?

We have signed a striker!
Hopefully he'll stay fit and do well for us since we'll likely rely on him quite a bit.
