Eto'o scored over 100 goals in five seasons with Barcelona, and is also the record holder in number of appearances by an African player in La Liga.[6] In 2010, he became the first player to win two European continental trebles following his back-to-back achievements with Barcelona and Inter Milan. He is the second player to have ever scored in two separate UEFA Champions League finals and the fourth player, after Marcel Desailly, Paulo Sousa, and Gerard Piqué, to have won the UEFA Champions League two years in a row with different teams.

Roberto Martinez has not ruled out the possibility of Samuel Eto’o making his Everton debut against former club Chelsea on Saturday.

The Blues secured the signature of the 33-year-old triple Champions League winner on Tuesday evening.

Martinez will now closely study Eto’o’s first few training sessions before deciding whether he is ready to play a part against Jose Mourinho’s side.

But the Cameroonian’s enthusiasm to be involved can’t be doubted.

He said: “It is difficult. I tried to have that conversation and realistically I would have liked him to have 10 or 11 sessions before we put him in a competitive environment.

“But I quite quickly learned that I was wasting my time; he wants to be helpful to the team straight away and he wants to be involved.

“He is working today and everything will go down to what condition he has over the next two or three days to make that decision.

“He arrives at a good time with the international break and that will speed up his adaptation period.”

Surely not fit enough to start on Saturday as he has had no pre-season.    Maybe 10-15 minutes off the bench would be more suitable.

He's more fit than Lukaku (toe injury) Kone, must have Ebola or something.

Roberto Martinez says he feels that the experience of playing at Goodison Park last season helped Samuel Eto’o make his decision to join Everton.

Eto’o made his Premier League debut for Chelsea against Everton at Goodison Park last August, and although he left on the losing side, Martinez believes the experience had an impact on him.

“When Goodison is in full flow I don’t think you’ll see many stadiums showing the same soul,” said Martinez.

“Obviously Samuel has had many experiences around the world but on that day [his debut] Goodison was a big stadium for him.

“I’m sure that’s played a big part and that’s why I’m excited that our fans make sure Samuel knows he has arrived.”
