World Cup Tipster 2014

a WC tipster / Predictor ?

 

I don't think Predictor would really work would it? Everyone would have to submit a team daily, and it would get stretched once you were down to the semi finals.

I will have a go at running a tipster comp if there are enough people interested?

I think the easiest is to allow people to manage a "bracket" - for those fans of US College Basketball its like tipping the NCAA tournament.

Using the link that Super provided - enter the scores for all the group matches... and having done that Draw up a list of Group Winners and Group Runners up.

Type these in the Entry.

Then for each round enter the teams you think will progress to the next round - so of the 8 matches just type the 8 teams...

16 teams that will come out of groups - 5 points for each correct answer - totally correct answer regardless of winning group or not is 80 points
8 teams that win the 2nd Round and enter Quarter Finals - 10 points for each answer - correctly answering all quarter finalists is 80 points
4 teams that get into the Semi Finals - 20 points each - correctly answering all semi-finalists gets you 80 points
2 teams get into the Final - 40 points each correct answer - correctly answering all finalists gets you.... yes you've guessed right...... 80 points
Predict Winner - 80 points

So grand total of 400 points to be won for a perfect tipster.

In the event of a tie Break - countback is the number of correct picks of group winners - after that its a tie.

We would need 32 to do a proper World Cup but if we get less then we'll go for the classic format.

The rules are fairly similar to the usual Tipster.. but I'm calling it in 3 tranches of 16 matches in the Group Stages, then the Last 16 and Last 8. The top standing at this point get to pick (in ranking order) their preference to win the competition (the real World Cup). We all get to have a go at predicting the scores but, once it gets to the semi-final stage it's a bit of a lottery (only being 4 games left). So the objective is to make the final 4 basically.

We have about 20 entries (according to the other thread).

Tranche 1:
Please provide your predictions for the following games - nominate one match for double points. 3 points correct score, 2 points correct result with correct margin, 1 point correct result only (so 6 points if you correctly nominate the score for your joker) - absence of a joker will default to the England game.
