19 - Ellis Simms - will he make it?
Everton striker Ellis Simms declared his hunger to “show the manager what I can do” and compete for a First-Team place after signing a new three-year contract with the Club until the end of June 2024.
The 20-year-old revealed he has struck up a strong relationship with boss Rafa Benitez and how he takes inspiration from the progress of fellow Blues forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Simms has consistently hit the back of the net since joining Everton aged 16, scoring 52 goals in 71 league appearances for the Toffees’ Under-18 and Under-23 sides.
He enjoyed a successful loan spell at Blackpool in League One last season and played an instrumental role in their promotion to the Championship via the play-offs. After moving to the Seasiders in January, Simms netted 10 times in 19 starts.
The attacker says the experience of performing at senior level has further stoked his determination to make the step up to First-Team football for Everton.
“Everton is a massive club and I love it here,” Simms told evertontv.
“From Under-16s level to now, the Club has helped me grow as a person and as a player.
“The support the Club has given me has been fantastic and I’m very grateful to sign this new deal.
“Last season at Blackpool I learned a lot in a short space of time by coming up against different styles of play. It’s helped me become a better player.
“It gave me that taste of playing men’s football and now I am eager and ready to kick on and play at the highest level I can.”

He's 20 and worth a three year contract, so why haven't we seen him on the pitch?

Needless to say, but I'm going to say it anyway, I rather see Ellis play over Rondon.
Actually, anyone over Rondon.

I'm available. Overweight, immobile, shocking first touch, can't run for 90 minutes, basically just an occupier of space on the pitch...actually I think I am Rondon. But I'll do it for my train fare home and a bottle of something nice, no bother.

Ellis looks like he may have eaten Rondon, so stick him in. Two for the price of one.

Good idea. We've got tons of great strikers to choose from, none of whom have a recent history of injury, and there is no pandemic, so let's loan out what little cover we have in that position

Re: 19 - Ellis Simms - will he make it?
I saw this on today's feeds..
Everton 21-year-old Ellis Simms has chosen to join Championship side Sunderland on loan.
so presumably, if true, this means there is a striker coming in ! (Broja ???).. as Simms is listed in the 1st team squad on the OS

Simms completes Sunderland loan switch
Everton striker Ellis Simms has completed a loan move to Sunderland and will spend 2022/23 on loan with the Championship club.
Simms made his one senior Everton appearance to date in a Premier League game at Chelsea in December 2021.
The 21-year-old, who signed a new Goodison Park contract back in November to keep him at the club until the end of June 2024, spent the second half of last season on loan in Scotland with Hearts.
He scored seven goals in 21 appearances, including one in a Scottish Cup semi-final victory over Edinburgh rivals Hibernian.

I remember players being recalled from loan spells in the 'olden days' (early '90s) but haven't heard of it happening since. It's a bit rough on the club who has loaned the player in, especially if the recall happens after the transfer window is shut, so I suspect it is written into contracts that loans can't be terminated

I'm fairly sure you can't recall them, although there might be an exemption for the RS.
Think the parent club can recall a player, but assume this is built into the contract. I know Peterborough have had loan players in from Prem teams, who have been sent back before the loan agreement has been fulfilled. This was due to the loan player not getting much game time, then the player went out on loan again when the Jan transfer window opened.
Re: 19 - Ellis Simms - will he make it?
Common sense at last !!! ?? ... or maybe a signal that we aren't buying a striker in January
Ellis Simms has been recalled from his loan spell at Sunderland and will return to Everton on 1 January.
The 21-year-old striker joined the Black Cats at the end of July on an initial season-long loan, scoring seven goals in 17 matches in the Championship.
Simms will now return to Finch Farm to be part of Frank Lampard’s First-Team squad and, subject to clearance, will be eligible for the Blues’ Premier League clash against Brighton & Hove Albion at Goodison Park on Tuesday 3 January.
Powerful forward Simms, who has also had loan spells at Blackpool and Hearts, joined Everton Academy aged 16 and made his Premier League debut in December 2021 at Chelsea, a month after signing a new three-year contract.

Re: 19 - Ellis Simms - will he make it?
We couldn't we agree a swap deal with Gyokeres ???
Ellis Simms has completed a permanent transfer to Coventry City for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old striker joins the Championship club after six years with the Blues, progressing through the Club’s Academy to make his Men’s Senior Team debut against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in December 2021.
As part of his development, Simms enjoyed loan spells with Blackpool, Heart of Midlothian and then Sunderland for the first half of last season, before returning to Everton for the start of 2023 and scoring a late equaliser in the 2-2 draw at Chelsea in March.
Everyone at Everton wishes Ellis all the best for the future.

I guess he wasn't impressing enough in training / the club feel Cannon is a better prospect.
Gyokores clearly isn't joining us. Hard to blame him.

A very tidy hattrick last night, albeit against Maidstone.
His record in the league is 6 goals in 34 games, so not much to write home about (although better than DCL).
