It seems like we are going after quality signings, not just to fill out the roster. Hopefully more quality ones to come.

Digne, a younger, better player on a long contract, and Rose, nearing the end of his contract and looking for a paycheck! at least I hope this is just a wind up?

Everton have told Tottenham they want left-back Danny Rose, 28, and cash in order to let Lucas Digne, 25, leave Goodison Park. (Star)

Everton will rebuff any offers for the club's Player of the Year who only arrived at Goodison last summer from Barcelona in a deal that could be worth £22m.

Chelsea and Manchester City could turn to Everton's France left-back Lucas Digne, 26, if they cannot prise England left-back Ben Chilwell, 23, away from Leicester. (ESPN)

Find that pen!
If nothing else, it means we can charge top dollar when he decides he doesn't want to play for a mid-table team any more.

Re: Lucas Digne - French Deulofeu Lookalike
Lucas Digne has signed a new long-term contract with Everton, committing his future to the Club until the end of June 2025.
The France international left-back says the Blues’ big ambition, coupled with the “love supporters show me every day”, made penning an extended deal an easy decision.
Digne, who likened his bond with Everton to “an amazing wedding”, won major honours with former clubs Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.
And the 27-year-old is convinced Everton boast the manager, talent and infrastructure to add to his trophy haul.
Digne joined from Barcelona in summer 2018 and in 97 Everton appearances has directly contributed to 24 goals, scoring five and assisting 19.
“The fans made me feel at home from the beginning, they showed me big love and created a song for me,” Digne told evertontv.
“It is something I really appreciate and it is very important for me to keep the stability.
“We have a big project with the Club and can reach something very good at the end of this season and for the next few years.
“I want to play in Europe and Everton is the best place to do that.
“I have seen the progress every year since joining the Club, we are building a strong team.
“When you sign for Everton, it is like an amazing wedding.
“You just have to do your best every day to show Evertonians the love you have for them.
“That is what I do.
“I want to show them what they give me and it is just amazing.
“It was clear in my mind that I want to continue with Everton.”

Hairy, can you write a song for James please, so that he's also happy and signs a long-term deal and sells more shirts for us? Something Colombian-sounding would make sense.
Call it "Me Encanta James." Maybe a duet with Shakira? She's shacked up with Pique. Pique played at Barcelona with Digne, who loves a song. Digne plays for Everton. Everton is the People's Club of Liverpool. You are one of Liverpool's most esteemed post-punk musicians. I mean, that's only five degrees of separation. This isn't as far-fetched as you might think.
Maybe stick a salsa version of Sleeping Gas on the b-side.

Everton boss Rafael Benitez dropped Lucas Digne, 28, for the win over Arsenal after a row and the France left-back could now be sold in January. (The Athletic - subscription required)

He's kind of gone off the boil anyway. Maybe we can recall Nkounkou, although I just read on Wiki that he was a Carlo signing (Carlo called him personally to get him to sign), so perhaps not.

I'm hoping that this is a fuss over nothing and it will blow over quickly. But Rafa is our manager and he can be an absolute dick when he wants to be, so there's every chance there is something in this. Let's be honest, we don't know for sure. Stuff like this goes with the territory when Rafa's in town.
So OK, let's assume for the moment that this story is true and that Rafa and Digne have had a falling out...
He's a good player, so this would be a shame because we're light on good players at the moment. But he's not good enough, I'm afraid, to even think about calling any shots. Like, he's not Ronaldo or Zlatan. The team isn't built around him. He's a left-back. Our left-back isn't going to get the manager sacked in a power struggle. And a decent full-back isn't going to drag us out of the shit and win too many games single-handedly when we're in trouble.
If the story is true then I would very much like Digne to shut the fuck up, do his job and earn his money by playing football to the best of his ability and not arguing with a manager who is notorious for not taking any shit and getting his own way. I mean, if I know that then he should know that, which would make me think he wants out anyway and this is his way of engineering it. And I'm not necessarily saying it's right or good that Rafa is so obstinate; just that, well, that's the way he is, like it or not. And he's the manager right now.
So if Digne can't knuckle down and do what he's paid to do then quite honestly we don't want him and he's welcome to do one in January. His worth as a player doesn't justify him causing any kind of dressing room strife. If he wasn't getting a game for some unknown reason then it might be a little bit different. But an argument over style of play, serious enough to get dropped? Fuck off. We don't need that shit right now.
Having said all that...
We don't actually know for sure why Digne didn't play at the weekend. This is the problem, we'll believe any old shit we read - I'm as bad for that as anyone. He's never previously struck me as being a bit of a twat, and this could all be media bollocks. It could just be Rafa on a power trip picking on Digne for no reason at all except to say "I'm the boss, I'll drop anyone if I want to." Does anyone remember Stevie G's face when he subbed off Torres once for no logical reason whatsoever? So if Digne plays at the weekend, and especially if he bangs in a late free-kick to win the three points, just ignore this post and I'm sorry to have taken up your time.
Re: Lucas Digne - French Deulofeu Lookalike
Everton boss Rafael Benitez says defender Lucas Digne has been training with the team and he will make a decision on Saturday about his availability for Sunday's trip to Crystal Palace.
Digne was left out of the squad for Monday's win against Arsenal despite being fit and available.
Asked if there had been a fall out, Benitez said: "Everybody has to be focused and realise the priority is the team. That's it.
"I don't want to talk too much about individuals, it's not fair on the group. The team was doing really well on the pitch with different players so they showed they can do it. What he has to do is make sure he keeps working hard, and the team is ahead of any individuals."
