Some goal. Nothing Tim could do about that. Shame couldn't keep a clean sheet but great result. Big confidence boaster. Can't wait to see Lukaku and Eto'o on the pitch at same time!

Good job done. Pity about their goal but it was a fantastic free kick
Re: Everton 4 - Wolfsburg 1 Och.G, Coleyman, Baines, Kev
Great result. Scoreline flattered us tonight, and Eto'o is ten times the player that Lukaku is, however old he is.
£28m? Fucking hell Bobby, find that receipt man.

Lukaku tired very quickly. I'm not his greatest fan but I thought he looked more convincing tonight than he has done in the past.

I dunno, he just shambles around most of the time. His runs are poor, giving no outlet to the midfield and defence, so they spend hours playing the ball square; his first touch is poor; his control is poor; and, for a big man, he's very easily muscled off the ball at times.
I just think he's not very good. Eto'o at (at least) 33 is lighter on his feet, thinks quicker, and knows exactly where to place a pass.

Superb performance, the result never looked in doubt!

Agree about Eto'o he's a delight to watch, sheer class

Yes, I didn't expect him to look a class above the way he did in his brief cameo tonight. If we can get 20 x 20 minute displays like that out of him this season, he'll make a massive difference. And, as you say, he really is a delight to watch.
Re: Everton 4 - Wolfsburg 1 Och.G, Coleyman, Baines, Kev
If it had finished 1-4 I don't think we could have complained too much. But we were very clinical at times.
Palace, Swansea and the Shite in quick succession now.

For me, the most pleasing thing was our defence tonight. We looked a lot stronger than in recent games.

Play him from the git go. The guy is just oozing class. Big Luke started well, but their CB was just what we need right now. (OK we scored 4, but he was excellent)

They may well reverse that score at their place, if we don't learn things from tonight's game.
McGeedy is a disaster waiting to happen, in most games.
Shyt or bust every time he gets the ball.
Seamus left high and dry so much of the time, and he runs into Coleman's space too.

We will play much better this season and lose.
One weird game. 4-1 win and our goalie is man of the match.

Well done Mindy another great thread ( keep it up) the blues are on the march.
Great game last night The blues have thrown their hat in the Europa ring to mount a serious challenge.
Tim Howard out standing , John Stones proves he's a centre-back not a right-back , Steven Naismith is a real worker-hollic,
MaCarthy/Barry held the mid-field , Lukaku started well but fitness is his problem , nice to see Darren Gibson playing like he's never been away.
was great to see two wing backs Baines/Coleman a winger Mirallas and stones going forward .
Eto'o was a breathe of fresh air last night selfless with his short contribution , If Martinez uses him correctly he could be a great asset and buy of the season.
Negatives and their were a few, the score line did flatter us, Lukaku looked lethargic and Jagielka still making school boy erroprs, Wolfsburg had their chances because we dropped are guard, we allowed them too much time on the ball. a better team would have taken those chances , we can't afford to sit back and allow the opposition back in the game, thank god for Tim Howard.
Just a thought on John stones, he's young and very fit , I personally would swap between Jagielka and Distin in resting players, Stones needs playing time to become the player we all want him to be, he was very comfortable on the ball last night even going forward.
Overall job done.

Jags and Distin have been very poor recently. I'd put Stones in. Its up to the dropped player to prove his worth.

Re: Everton 4 - Wolfsburg 1 Och.G, Coleyman, Baines, Kev
To be fair, the way Wolfsberg dominated the second half may just be a reflection on the tactics we used. Once we were three up, it made sense simply to sit back, let them come on to us and hit them on the break with pace. Most teams would have played that way. The problem was that they are no mugs and, once they'd been given the space to play, they made it very awkward for us. I think we'll see more displays like this and sometimes, like in the Arsenal game, we'll throw away good leads because we haven't quite got the hang of this sitting back lark.

I find worrying how open our right hand side is.
Most attacks now come down that side.

Because McGeady can't defend, and seemingly has no understanding of that side of football.Gravy & Chips wrote:I find worrying how open our right hand side is.

RM needs to look elsewhere among the squad for someone who can compliment Seamus, and not either get in his way, or go AWOL.

Hopefully when Pienaar is back Kev will move to the right hand side.
