Can he play against City?

Three years is a lot for a 33 year old. Still, we gave Kone a 4 year deal and he'll be 61 next month.
Re: 18: Gareth Barry - loan or long term City freebie?
Great news. I'm really pleased with this, even though, as stated many times here, it's a bit of a long deal, but if Distin can still play at age 78, why can't Barry?

Have to agree with the others. This is wonderful and must be the post of the year.

Sums things up nicely! We need to sign at least 2 strikers now as a priority and ideally ensure all future signing are at least under 30 - ideally under 27!

Re: 18: Gareth Barry - loan or long term City freebie?
Everton midfielder Gareth Barry can continue to compete at the highest level for the length of his recently signed three-year deal, says the club's former player Lee Carsley.
Barry, 33, made a loan move from Manchester City permanent during the summer after making 37 appearances in 2013-14.
"The year I left, there was a policy that over 30-year-old players didn't get more than a year's contract extension," says Carsley. "So to give Gareth Barry three years is testament to him as a player and his outstanding contribution last year.
"They obviously think he can play for three more years and so do I, he is still a good player."

Gareth Barry will serve a two-match suspension should he collect another yellow card between now and Sunday 12 April.
The midfielder could be walking a disciplinary tightrope for the next 10 Premier League fixtures after he was booked for the ninth time this season against West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday night.
Barry has already served a one-match ban this term – he missed the 3-1 home victory over Queens Park Rangers in December as punishment for receiving five cautions.

You could see last night's booking coming a mile off. Ah well, good news is McGeady will be back in time for Barry's suspension

Re: 18: Gareth Barry - loan or long term City freebie?
Gareth Barry escapes three match ban by getting a red card, crazy ,Barry already on nine yellows would get extra 2 match ban when he gets another yellow card taking him to ten yellows, this will only come into effect if Barry gets booked against le Arse, Barry misses the home game against Leicester.

Gareth Barry is becoming a liability.

Agreed Statman, but, Roberto will still choose him over Besic, because he's an arrogant BS.
Re: 18: Gareth Barry - loan or long term City freebie?
our midfield is a large part of our problem if you ask me... I'm not going to bang the 'they are shit' drum...Sefton wrote:Statman wrote:Gareth Barry is becoming a liability.

They are all defensive !!
Macca, Besic, Barry, Gibbo... all defensive midfielders who score once in a blue moon... if then.
Luka despite having a bad set of games has scored similar amounts to the last few seasons... Nais has dried up... Barks is like a different player.
IMO ... Our main problems are that our midfield is too defensive.
