Kone will score a hat-trick in the opening game, two more in the next game, and the papers will have him as a target for Man Citteh for £25m plus James Milner as a makeweight.

Will get a new improved contract by the sound of it.

James McCarthy is still in line to receive a new and improved contract at Everton , says Roberto Martinez .

The 23-year-old midfielder was an instant success on Merseyside after the Blues paid £13m for his services last summer, making 34 appearances and scoring once.

It prompted Martinez to include him in a list of players he was keen to reward with new deals this summer, and after Tim Howard, Seamus Coleman, Ross Barkley and now John Stones have put pen to paper, the Toffees boss said an agreement on enhanced terms for McCarthy is still in the pipeline,

He said: “It will be natural. James’s contract is already performance related so the longer that he plays he gets a bigger reward.

“We will always be looking at rewarding players as they do well and James, clearly, is one of those.

“We always want to keep our young players important at the club and keep rewarding them. That will never change. That goes along with players who change their roles in the squad. We talk a lot about our young players and rightly so, but sometimes we forget that without that solid base of experienced lads behind them you don’t go anywhere.

“We must remember that we have continuity too which is vital.”

Or Besic. Either way, some first teamers were always likely to be rotated for this game, and this is a position with lots of cover. As long as it's not a long term injury this is no major concern.

I like bad losers, as it shows passion, don't think moaning helps the team, specially if a player talks himself into the referees note book.

I think it has been way too long since we have had a player who will have a go at the ref.

Every other team do it, we have been too nice for our own good for far too long.

Keep it up is what I say.

Watched the shyte beaten at Madrid last night, how Ramos didn't get sent off with putting his face right up in face of the referee I don't know.
maybe if we fought the ref more we might have got more decisions from referee Friend on Saturday? maybe only big clubs get away with it?

Tottenham are monitoring developments with Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

The Republic of Ireland man did not travel with the club to Hull on New Year's Day as he protects his hamstring injury. However, clubs have become aware that he has grown frustrated following the lack of talks over a revised contract.

The 24-year-old only joined Everton from Wigan in 2013 for £13million and signed a five year deal. It is understood that was linked with incentives and Roberto Martinez has since hinted that he would discuss new terms with the player to reward his performances.

McCarthy has been pivotal to Martinez's style and has been one of Everton's most consistent performers. His troublesome hamstring injury has been sorely felt by the team as well as the player this season. His importance has been widely recognised by team-mates and other Premier League clubs have taken keen notice.

Arsenal wanted to buy him in January and were willing to go to £20m but they are wary Everton will refuse all offers and don't want to become engaged in a saga hence looking at other targets. Tottenham have similar reservations but like the player and will see how events develop.

Head of recruitment Paul Mitchell was a big admirer of McCarthy during his time at Southampton and watched the midfielder regularly while he was playing for Wigan. Tottenham are in the process of re-shaping their squad and are looking to offload midfielders but believe McCarthy would fit into Mauricio Pochettino's pressing style should he be willing to make the move.

But is he not the type of player that is crucial to the spine of the team? Is it not telling that our poor run coincides with Macca's injury & fitness woes. There is a lot of players I would jettison before McCarthy. Need to keep a youthful spine of Coleman-Stones-McCarthy-Barkley-Lukaku intact I feel.

McCarthy gets a new contract when he makes a certain number of appearances. Not a peformance related contract like Baines, Coleman, Barkley et all.
