The wall seems to be the right position but Howard is a couple of feet too far to the left and had no chance to get over to the top right corner. He nearly made it and if he had started out from a better position it would have been a routine save. Fair play to Brunt though - he placed it superbly.

Manager David Moyes has told David Beckham just to pick up the phone if he wants a loan spell at Everton. But if the former England captain, 35, saw the 4-1 defeat by West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, he might decide it's better not to talk.

SLOW STARTERS
Everton have a history of poor starts under Moyes and this season is no different. They are 16th in the table, two points above the relegation zone and have won just three games. Next up it's Chelsea away.

DODGY DEFENCE
Everton looked ponderous - especially Phil Jagielka - and West Brom's first goal was ridiculously simple, Paul Scharner rising unchallenged to head in a corner.

AT THE OTHER END
Jermaine Beckford is having a rough time. Only Moussa Dembele and Frederique Piquionne have worse shooting accuracy this season than Beckford, who gets just 30 per cent of his efforts on target. Everton's strikers have scored two league goals all season.

LEADERSHIP CRISIS
In the absence of Phil Neville, the captaincy went to Mikel Arteta. But the Spaniard set a poor example, being sent off for a stamp on Gonzalo Jara.

HE'S NOT THE 'MOYESIAH'
Moyes looked tired and distant after the 4-1 thrashing. There was none of the usual defiance or anger. Sections of the crowd voiced their disapproval. Would Beckham really swap his Hollywood lifestyle for this mess?
