Really hope we beat them to 4th place, Arteta scores 97th minute own goal winner for us at Goodison and then whips off his arsenal shirt to reveal a 'once a blue...' t-shirt, leaps into the street end, crowd surfs to the back, belts it out the exit, sets fire to anfield, zooms off in a blue lamborghini and runs over Luis Suarez.

Re: 10: Mikel Arteta - Best Little Spaniard - Arsed!
I'm just interested to hear how people feel about Arteta's managerial success.
For me, he has elements of twattiness to his managerial style which, personally, I can easily put down to him just trying to always gain an advantage for his team. Whingeing in the media about bad decisions etc. That's all part of the psychological game. I think all successful managers are media twats to a degree, with the occasional exception (e.g Ancelotti.)
That aside, I'm really happy to see him doing well. Basically because Arteta represents that period under Moyes when we had a team to be quietly proud of. Arteta, Cahill, Pienaar, Baines, Jags, Fellaini, Saha etc. We won fuck all, of course, but we had a little bit of class on the pitch. A few extra quid and a few extra players and we could have staggered up the precipice to the next level at that time. We were competing with peak Chelsea and peak Sir Alex, of course, but it was a team put together on a shoestring, relatively-speaking, and they were just fun to watch.
I never begrudged Arteta his move to Arsenal, I considered it to be perfectly understandable at that stage of his career. I'd like to see him finish the job this season because if they don't do it this year, they'll probably find it a lot harder next season.
It's quite poignant, given our current state, thinking back to those days. Not helped by the fact that I'm drinking at the moment.

I remember that he was appointed Arsenal manager roughly the same time we appointed Carlo, and we thought we had got by far the better deal.

I have a couple of Gooner mates... and when we got Ancelotti they were apoplectic. FWIW I would have loved Arteta to come here (even though there was a risk) - three years on and look.
Arteta was the better bet... he would have always been our "Mikel". He never really wanted to leave. He still played more games for us than any other club.
I think we would be in a better position all round.

Who knows? In the future maybe.
I do consider him to be "our" bloke, not Sociedad's or Rangers' or Arsenal's, so to that extent he's one of us. He did OK at Arsenal as a player but the peak of his playing days was with us.
Ancelotti was fun while it lasted, I wouldn't swap that period even if the football was a bit turgid at times, but hindsight is my friend here so, yes, I agree with you. At the time, I'll be honest, I was all in for Carlo.

I was 100% in that camp. And the point here is, we never know. If I may temporarily reopen the philosophical bar for a moment and share a favourite quote, which I've quoted here before - "all I know is I know nothing." From Socrates.
It doesn't literally mean we know nothing, of course. It means that all knowledge above and beyond the elementary "I think therefore I am" is there to be superseded.
Or to put it in a contemporary context, "don't be a smart arse." We never know until the evidence reveals itself. It took guts for Arsenal to appoint Arteta.
