I thought, at times, he was awesome for us . Playing in the World Cup final didn't seem to do him any favors.

Yeah +1. Too much like Jags to play alongside Jags, and DM seemed to fancy him as a Carsley type. We've 3 better in that Carsley mould now.

He seemed to be at his best when protected by his midfield, and he was able to marshal them, but as soon as he was exposed 1 on 1, he just didn't have the pace, weight or height to cope.mindyerho? wrote:Lumper wrote:Tonteau wrote:Mr_Ben wrote:Knight of Thorgothshire wrote:I'm surprised he has featured 137 times for us. His best season for us came after he'd played in the WC final, though. I remember the game where we beat chelsea and Saha scored. Heitinga bossed drogba all game. I think his biggest problem was that he didn't like competition, he wanted to be first choice all the time and if he'd lost his place and got a chance to play, he'd never raise his game like he would when he knew he had a run of games.
Leaving his shoulder in on Ashley Cole when he was going up to take a penalty has to rank as a classic piece of gamesmanship.

Also though when he wasn't on his game, was liable to quite a lot of positional errors which costs us a lot of goals. When we was good he was very good but when he want switched on he was a liability. Simple fact also is he just couldn't shift Jags or Distin who are probably the most reliable centre back duo in the league.

I liked J5 .. I thought his best role for us would have been in the Gibbo / Barry slot .. ie Anchor behind the central mifield ... I don't think Moyes liked him much & he's too old to be in Robbie's long term plansBluejagz wrote:Tonteau wrote:Lumper wrote:Tonteau wrote:Mr_Ben wrote:Knight of Thorgothshire wrote:I'm surprised he has featured 137 times for us. But ideally, as we can now see, you need a proper specialist player in that anchor position that can knit the defensive and midfield together effectively. Barry acts as an effective screen but his also comfortable going forward in the final third as is Gibson to a certain extent. Players like Heitinga and Neville could protect the back ok but could offered nothing going forward thus destroying any momentum of a fast break forward.

Re: 5: Johnny Heitinga -"proud Evertonian"
The window is open, and West Ham boss Sam Allardyce confirms before kick-off that the club are hopeful of finalising a deal to sign Everton defender Johnny Heitinga in the next 24 hours.
He said: "We've had the ok from Everton and we're talking to his agent so hopefully that will happen in the next day or so."
Re: 5: Johnny Heitinga -"proud Evertonian"
I wonder how much we are looking at getting from that deal. Probably not too much, but hopefully at least some £2-3M.hairy cataract wrote:The window is open, and West Ham boss Sam Allardyce confirms before kick-off that the club are hopeful of finalising a deal to sign Everton defender Johnny Heitinga in the next 24 hours.

Takes him off the payroll then. I'm sure he is on a decent wedge. All the best Johnny. You were decent once.

I doubt even half of that.. £1M would be about right.Knight of Thorgothshire wrote:I wonder how much we are looking at getting from that deal. Heard rumours that we are getting fuck all for him. Apparently West Ham are taking over the remainder of his contract so he will still be out of contract in the summer.
Re: 5: Johnny Heitinga -"proud Evertonian"
I bet that free's up about £1million on his wages but we shouldn't be letting him go without a fee.Dixie Land wrote:Heard rumours that we are getting fuck all for him. Apparently West Ham are taking over the remainder of his contract so he will still be out of contract in the summer.

SSN reporting that he has rejected the move to West Ham. Not enough wedge then.
update:Express reporting its not about the money so he obviously thinks Hammers are shit and doesn't want to go there.

We actually paid Campbell to fuck off after he said he would take 17th after the 4-1 loss to Arsenal.....then we finished 4th. I lost a lot of respect for Super Kev after that
