Everton v Newcastle - Sky Meaningless Monday.

Post  RhinoJagz on Tue 17 Apr 2018, 1:23 pm

Wow! We are on a roll now. Fortified by two superb free-flowing all action end to end attacking draws, Everton bring their merciless brand of intense, high press, high risk, full throttle panzer blitzkrieg football back to Goodison in the highly anticipated titanic clash with their great mid-table rivals Newcastle. With 9th place and about £1.5m* in prize money on the line, expect no quarter given from the off in no doubt another Big Sam inspired breathless display of invention and ball control. Davy Klaassen is unlikely to be risked in what is potential a vital game to cement our aspirations of finishing somewhere between Leicester City and Bournemouth. Expect another Fallrückzieher** from Oumar Naisse and a defensive tour-de-force from Ashley Williams, surely a cert for Players Player of the Year.

All and all a thrilling 90 minutes awaits us which will surely make a fantastic DVD in time for Christmas.

Prediction: 0-0

*This may not be accurate.

**A Fallrückzieher is an acrobatic goal shot in which a player flips and kicks the ball backward over his own head.

Very good.  If there was a fan survey on match threads, I would give it 11 out of 10.

Toon doubling up on Walcott and Bolasie.

Operation Goodison Exercise was a success though.

Jags nearly scores. Then Pickford miskicks and Toon are nearly in.

HT. Very even. Rooney a bit too deep - not enough support for Cenk and we need to get the ball into the box quicker and more often.

Sam is a tactical genius. Theo and Bols have swapped wings. Bols crosses, ball breaks to Theo who finishes coolly.

FT. Even game, a moment of class from Walcott the only difference between the two sides. I guess we should be beating these 'small clubs' more comfortably though.

Another rare Allardyce win ,but we are made to suffer,Wayne Rooney is finished surely people can see he hasn’t got the legs anymore he kept giving the ball away far too many times ,while Phil Jagielka was doing his best to get Newcastle back into the game.
Morgan Schniderlin went off with a dead leg and Tom Davies came on as his replacement, but? Failed to impress,Calvert Lewin being played out of position was missing in action.
The only shining lights Walcott who took his goal well and Adrissa Guye who had a busy game .

Pickford - solid game - loved his reaction at the end when he gestured to the "Tackems".
Coleman solid game - look forward to him and Walcott next year - sensational clearance at the end
Keane - OK, but his price means we should expect more
Jags - best game for a long while
Baines - the start of the end? Solid enough but spent a decent time arguing with Keane
Schneiderlin - best game for a while. It's not a dead leg - I think he has done something in his knee. Davies was not so good. He has regressed this season.
Gueye - solid performance. Tackling and blocking as he usually does. Would like him to develop a goal threat capability
Rooney - man the guy has a number of huge distractions (Private Eye will give you a clue) - interesting dynamic when Schneiderlin was being treated. Sam was hammer and tongs with him and Wayne was pressing points back. Seconds later Dunc walked over and called Wayne to one side and had a quiet word to which Wayne nodded compliantly
Walcott - working at 75% speed and still has more time... we need to build around him (speed of thought etc)
Bolasie - my biggest complaint tonight. I must admit I was rude and shouted at him after the tannoy announced the end of "Operation Goodison Exit" - I was heard to shout "How come Bolasie is still on the pitch?"
Tosun - worked hard again. Better ball control than Niasse. But we need the close season to be him in.

Saying all that, had a fantastic 10-15 minute chat with one Robert Latchford, formerly of this parish. Also had a decent chat before the match with Alan Greene (Radio 5Live). I can tell you there is an antipathy between him and Sam (and its Sam's fault apparently).

We were rightful winners in a match that had one attempt on goal and one goal as a result. There was a view that two managers were being interviewed today (practical examination). Watch this space!
