Tuesday 15 September 2015
Former Premier League striker Marcus Bent has been charged with affray and possession of a Class A drug, it is being claimed.
Surrey Police officers were forced to use a Taser at a home in Esher on Sunday after being threatened with weapons at around 9.30pm, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
Bent is currently on bail and due to appear at North Surrey Magistates Court at the end of the month, the newspaper says.
The 37-year-old played more than 500 career games in a nomadic career that saw him play for 14 different English clubs, including Everton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town, between 1995 and 2011, as well as a season in Indonesia at the end of his career. Bent in his playing days for Everton
A police spokesman told the Mail: "A 37-year-old man has been charged with affray and the possession of a Class A drug following an incident in Esher on Sunday (13 September).
"Police attended a residential property at around 9.30pm. Officers were threatened with weapons when at the location and a Taser was deployed.
"Marcus Bent of Claremont Lane, Esher is currently on bail. He is due to appear at North Surrey Magistrates Court in Staines on Wednesday, 30 September 2015."
Bent has played for more Premier League clubs than any other player, spending time in England's top flight with eight different teams - Crystal Palace, Blackburn Rovers, Ipswich Town, Leicester City, Everton, Charlton Athletic, Wigan Athletic and Wolves.
He scored a total of 40 Premier League goals for those clubs, but never got to double figures. His most prolific seasons came when he scored nine for Ipswich in 2001-02 and while on loan at Leicester in 2003-04.
He was named Premier League player of the Month while at Ipswich in January 2002 and started 31 matches as a lone striker when Everton finished fourth and qualified for the Champions League under David Moyes in 2004-05.

Clearest penalty ever at the start for handball. Also summed Faddy up when he tries to cross the ball and it hits Killer's arse!
