Post  Hinchcliffe Corner Fri 02 Jan 2015, 1:12 pm

No one else seems to want to take up the match thread mantle... can't imagine why!

So... we take on the Hammers in the FA Cup at a time when no one can really see where our next win is coming from.  Some people may say we shouldn't take the cup too seriously, but sometimes a good cup run can inspire confidence, something we're seriously lacking at the moment.

I'm hoping that not having the pressure of league position to worry about may help the players (I'm grasping at straws here) and I'll predict a hard fought 2-1 win to the blues, Kone and Barkley getting on the scoresheet (or alternatively Tony Cottee getting all three).

Grateful thanks to Bobby, really sad it hasn't worked out, tears tears luvvie luvvie.

I think we've got a good chance of being in the hat for the 4th round. As long as the draw for the 4th round is before Tuesday that is.

Big difference is that team had leaders, i.e. Watson, Parkinson, Horne.

We also had a keeper who depite being fat and old, was still 3 times as good as Robles (why does he have Joel on his shirt?).

There is all sorts of dread mixing around this game.

What will the crowd reaction be like if we fall behind and a Sam Allardyce team start pissing all over us? In front of the TV cameras? Will it be as poisonous as Winter 05, our last real woeful christmas run? Will it finally dawn on Bobby that we can't play (out from the back) our way out of it? Will any of our big players start shouldering some responsibility and dig deep? Will our bag of shite defense manage to keep the likes of Carroll and Sakho at bay?

Or will this be one of those defining games that turn a season. Id rather a blood and thunder backs to the wall narrow win then to piss all over them. One that shows character and courage. But honestly now, I don't think we are capable of it. Bobby is a confidence manager. And when we don't have any, he doesn't seem capable of motivating what looks on paper, our strongest squad in years.

Im numb with disappointment at the moment. Another huge opportunity lost as the Premier League underneath City and Chelsea fluctuates widely as clubs try to rebuild and rediscover winning recipes. Thank god a busy christmas traveling has left we with like time to stew over the enormity of the farce that faces us. At least when we were shite in the past we knew where we stood. Now nobody knows where this will end.

Bring the pain but don't bring the shame.

This is a make or break week for Martinez , How stressed does he look in todays conference? compare to last season.
Welcome to Goodison Roberto.
Two games at Home, one in the FA Cup v Spammers, one in the League v Citey, Martinez said its a pivotal time in his Everton career,
Fuck it up Roberto and I will personally drive you and Joel to Liverpool John Lennon airport.

Anyways that said, sick and tired of the negativity by Manager-players-fans alike.
Balls on the line, I'm going for a 2-0 win to Everton Naismith & Lukaku who owes us a big game.

TEAM NEWS

Everton midfielder James McCarthy will miss the FA Cup third-round tie with West Ham with a hamstring injury. Defender Antolin Alcaraz is suspended, so John Stones is likely to start after having missed the last two games with an ankle problem.

West Ham will assess defender James Tomkins (ankle) ahead of Tuesday's tie. The Hammers will be without midfielders Cheikhou Kouyate and Alex Song, who are away at the Africa Cup of Nations, so Mark Noble and Kevin Nolan could start. Striker Diafra Sakho was also set to depart for international duty at the tournament in Equatorial Guinea, but is undergoing further tests on a back injury which could rule him out of contention for Senegal's squad.

Sam Allardyce admits he does not have a big enough squad to afford much squad rotation, but he does have experienced options available in midfielder Matt Jarvis and forward Ricardo Vaz Te.

Allardyce's side have suffered a dip in form of late. After sitting fourth in the Premier League at Christmas, the Hammers picked up just one point from three games in the festive schedule.

However, Everton's recent record is even worse, with the Toffees having won only one of the last nine matches to leave them 13th in the Premier League table and just four points above the relegation zone.

Their situation has not been helped by injuries to goalkeeper Tim Howard (calf), midfielders Leon Osman (foot), Darron Gibson (knee), Steven Pienaar (knee) and defender Tony Hibbert (unspecified).

Everton have a good record against West Ham, though, having not lost to the Hammers in 14 fixtures dating back to 2007, and winning the last five games between the sides.

Lawro's FA Cup predictions
"Everton cannot buy a win at the moment - they have lost four in a row and have a lot of injuries. The biggest difference between the Toffees this season and last season is that they are no longer difficult to beat. It might suit them that they are playing West Ham, whose manager Sam Allardyce never strikes me as the biggest fan of the FA Cup. I am going for a horrible, scrappy 1-0 win for Everton, but I don't think Toffees manager Roberto Martinez will mind how they get it, as long as they stop the rot."

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is hoping a run of three home games - starting on Tuesday - will prompt an upturn in results.

"As a club we have all been disappointed by the results," he said. "We now have three games at home and it is really important we support each other.

"We need to get that positive result which would trigger our season and a bit of momentum, which I don't think we have had.

"It is time to help each other, help the players enjoy their football and we will get the reward from it because the talent and quality is there.

"We are here to win games and build something for the future, not just for now, it is to build for the future and become a winning team."

Having given his players a four-day break after their previous fixture, Allardyce is hoping his side will have the energy to capitalise on any lack of confidence among the Everton players.

"With four days' rest there is sufficient recovery time to have a go against Everton. It has given us a little bit of breathing space," he said.

"Everton have had some injuries to key players in important positions, so if there is a lack of confidence, hopefully we can exploit that."
