A below-average performance but a good 3 points. Alcaraz is pretty handy, Robles a liability.

That was a massive win. I am very impressed by Soton, they played on the floor and closed us down very well.

This was a match which really could have gone either way. 3 hard fought points!

Great win. And great to see Lukaka bury the winner - that's the kind of goal he was scoring earlier in the season, and is the sort of finish we've missed having in the past.

Quite right. We'll have Barry back for the next game, and the commentators suggested that Jags problem wasn't that bad but I guess we'll find out in due course. Oh, and hopefully we can play anyone, anyone at all, instead of Steven Naismith.

Goes to show though that we do have a few areas lacking depth.

Yeah, Alcaraz did seem to slot into the back four without any real problems. But Robies isn't good enough. We're a bit fucked if Tim gets injured. Might be worth getting an experienced old lag in to cover for Tim. A Shay Given type.

3 cracking strikes.
Sloppy at the back at times
Robles is a poor keeper
Southampton decent side
Lucky to get all 3pts
Missed Barry

Was Robles at fault for the goal? Or was he just bad in general?
How did The Birdman play?
How did McCarthy cope without Barry in the middle?

I see we rested Miralles and Pienaar. Shows we have some decent depth to the squad now if we can rest those and still get a win against a gppd side.  Very Happy

He had a couple of fumbles and should have saved their goal.
McCarthy played well.

Not sure what Robles was doing on their goal. The shot was good but it literally went straight through Robles hands. Insane.

Alcaraz did very well I thought. We didn't miss Jags that much which speaks volumes of Alcaraz.

McCarthy was excellent I thought. He was all over the pitch (in a good way). Wonderful flick/pass for the 2-1 goal.

Naismith was totally invisible. I think most of us forgot he was on the pitch. He had some decent flick ons towards Lukaku, but he should never start ahead of Pienaar or Mirallas.
