Agreed Statman, but, Roberto will still choose him over Besic, because he's an arrogant BS.
our midfield is a large part of our problem if you ask me... I'm not going to bang the 'they are shit' drum...

They are all defensive !!

Macca, Besic, Barry, Gibbo... all defensive midfielders who score once in a blue moon... if then.

Luka despite having a bad set of games has scored similar amounts to the last few seasons... Nais has dried up... Barks is like a different player.

IMO ... Our main problems are that our midfield is too defensive.

Our attacking midfielders are being asked to play on the wing. fuck off Martinez you don't know what your doing.

You know what Sef... I'm with you... the guy is a wanker.... so many players out of position... so many poor signings...

back to the midfield ... maybe we are missing an attacking dynamic midfielder like Ossie a lot more than we think... he's busy, hassles, tackles & scores... we have no-one in centre midfield that does that

we play a 4-2-3-1

I'd say any goals from the '2' is a bonus. It's the 3 and 1 that need to get the goals.

Barry is more experienced than Besic. I like Besic but he does have a bit to learn.

that's hitting on what I mean MrB.. that's 6 defensive players.. sure Baines & Coley attack, but they are predominantly defenders.

The 3... 2 wingers that have largely been total shit.. very few goals from McFatty, Big Balls, Shitsu, Pieman, and anyone else who has the misfortune of playing there... Nais in the middle is good, but his goals have dried up.. Barks has been like a lower league player for a while (I really do blame Woy)..

Which leaves Luka as the 1... and as I say... he has actually a decent goal to game ratio despite this aforementioned pile of crap not supporting him.

It's fundamentally a negative lineup from a poor manager....

I reckon it makes Moyesie seem like an attacking manager in retrospect

We have no one other than Lukaku to score goals, Martinez doesn't have faith in Kone, He's desperate for Lukaku to be the main man, why ? his buy, needs Lukaku to succeed.
only problem is Martinez arrogance is taking us deeper and deeper into relegation, He has no qualms about that because he feels he can just Bull-Shit his way into another top money contract.

Early days i know but getting Mirallas & Lennon playing at the same time, with Lukaku, looks electric.......Martinez doesn't fancy it yet though, would rather play players out of position.

Mirallas or Naismith could fill that number 9 position, ahead of Kone, or even shift Lukaku to a wide area. Just as some kind of plan B..

RM's idea of 2 holding, and the FBs becoming WBs was fab for the first 30 games of last year, but then it got rumbled. So what the hell do we do now? Teaching our number 10 the offside rule would be a start. Showing Barry that unnecessary tripping doesn't work and telling McCarthy that allowing yourself to be strangled and butted is going to bring the club into disrepute. Charge that man.

Suspect to the FA

So was Barry back to his best... against the bottom of the league side who were down to 10 men?

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/everton-talking-point-gareth-barrys-9075090

Everton Talking Point: Gareth Barry's quiet bid to restore his Goodison status continues

IT was but a brief flurry, yet it happened nonetheless.

Applause, for Gareth Barry.

If this had been 12 months ago you would not have blinked.

But the fact that the Gwladys Street acknowledged a wonderful sliding intervention from the veteran, timed immaculately on Burnley’s Sam Vokes in the area, was almost a surprise on Saturday.

In his debut campaign for the Toffees, the then on-loan midfielder was something of a revelation; a popular figure thanks to his cultured displays and burgeoning partnership with James McCarthy.

Nobody was complaining when Roberto Martinez made his signing permanent last summer, even if a few eyebrows might have arched when the 33-year-old was given a three year deal.

But then this season happened. For everyone in Blue, it has been an ordeal.

For Barry in particular though, it’s been the most contrasting of campaigns.

From being a darling of the Gwladys Street, he’s felt the ire of angry Evertonians all too often.

An ECHO poll to find out which players fans want the club to keep or sell in the summer found that 59% would like to see Barry sold.

That slim majority have had enough. They are sick of what they perceive to be tired performances from a player whose legs, they claim, have gone and his ability to influence games has declined at an alarming rate of knots.

However, there have been signs of late during the mini (and too late) revival of Martinez’s side that Barry is not, actually, finished.

According to statistics website Whoscored.com, the 34-year-old was the outstanding player on te pitch during the win over Burnley.

Barry got an 8.0 rating, higher than anyone else in Blue or Claret.

He made more passes than any other Everton player with 83. The nearest behind him was Leighton Baines with 68.

He made more tackles than anyone else, including the ever industrious McCarthy.

If Barry’s successful pass percentage was down on others, it was only because he took responsibility and got on the ball so much more.

Granted, this commanding individual display was against 10 men for 45 minutes,

But even his fiercest critics would have to admit that Barry was a key reason Everton became mathematically certain of Premier League football again next term on Saturday,

He has been over-played this season, of course. Martinez has clung to him too frequently, often through over-reliance on his qualities of last season, often through necessity.

Barry knows it.

“I certainly feel as I did five or 10 years ago in terms of playing 90 minutes and my body feels exactly the same,” Barry said recently.

“But when you get to a certain age - and I’ve had these conversations with the manager - playing three games in six days, you just can’t recover as quickly as you did when you were in your mid-20s.

“I know that, the manager knows that, and I’m sure if the manager had players fit I wouldn’t have played as many games as I have done.”

If Martinez’s planned reinforcements go to plan in the summer, and with Muhamed Besic having a full season of experience under his belt, Barry may well feature less in the 2015/16 campaign.

But despite what 59% of fed-up Evertonians feel, the Blues squad would suffer if he were to head elsewhere, across the pond perhaps, this summer.

For a moment on Saturday, they remembered why many claimed Barry was unlucky not to get an England recall for the Wold Cup last year.

His quiet rehabilitation continues, in line with the team’s overall revival.

It is, perhaps, no coincidence the two are in parallel.

I may be berated for this, but I think he'd have been better than the Schnide on Saturday.
He may lack pace, as he always has, but we needed a measured pass more often than we got.
