Roberto Martinez is planning an £8m move for former Goodison loanee Gerard Deulofeu, according to the Daily Star.

The Spanish winger spelt the entire 2013/14 campaign on loan at Goodison Park and impressed many Evertonians with a series of impressive displays on the flanks for the Blues.

Deulofeu returned to Barcelona but after being farmed out on loan to Sevilla by new boss Luis Enrique, the 20-year-old is reportedly ready to quit the Camp Nou.

It is reported that Martinez will try to take advantage by tabling an £8m bid in the summer transfer window.

Everton have been linked with moves for Barcelona starlet Gerard Deulofeu ever since his loan spell at Goodison Park ended last season.

At one point over the summer it looked like Gerard Deulofeu may return to Everton for a second loan spell and Everton gaffer Roberto Martinez certainly would have loved to have had the chance to add the 21-year-old to his side for a second Premier League campaign.

But then, despite the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez ahead of him in the pecking order, he was set to be a part of the Barcelona first team squad as Luis Enrique was keen to keep him around the first team.

This however changed quite quickly, with reports in Spain suggesting that Enrique 'had not been impressed' with Deulofeu during Barcelona's pre-season.

Enrique wanted the 21-year-old to 'improve his defensive game' and subsequently sent him out on loan to Sevilla.

Now whilst it would have been nice to have had him back at Goodison Park you can see the merits of a loan deal in Spain. La Liga experience would of course benefit both Deulofeu and Barcelona should he be in their long term plans.

But it would seem he no longer fits the bill at the Nou Camp.

Early reports suggested that the player was not happy about the situation he has found himself in and according to talkSport back in September we were set to offer him an escape from Sevilla with a January loan bid.

This of course didn't materialise but the situation has remained unchanged.

Gerard Deulofeu making 27 appearances, scoring three times. But is apparently still not settled and is unsure on his immediate future.

Spain Under-21 boss Albert Celades shares his fears: "It`ll be very difficult for Deulofeu to succeed at Barcelona," he told Cadena SER.

He continued: "Not every player can succeed at Barcelona. Time will tell us how far Deulofeu goes in football.

"We are very happy with Deulofeu`s performances. He`s one of our captains and his integration into the team has been excellent.

"The qualities which Deulofeu has aren`t commonly found. It`s not been easy for him, given he hasn`t played much for Sevilla, but I understand the competition that exists at Sevilla."

Could Everton make a permanent move in the summer for him? Previous figures in the media have suggested he could be available for around £8million.

I wish we'd signed him in the summer instead of Barry!

He would have been a much better, forward thinking signing, where as Barry is yesterday's news on today's high wages...

I can see him playing for the shite when Sterling fooks off to Spain.. and tormenting us in the derbies No

Transfer to be announced officially by EFC later today, apparently.

Deal to be over 3 years including a £5 million transfer fee and options to buy-back at the end of the first 2 seasons at agreed fees.

my worry is that we will improve his team play then Barca will buy him back for a fiver and a signed Messi shirt and then they will sell him for £30m to someone else Sad
