Very pleased. I predict we'll be fending off £25m bids with-in the next couple of years for this lad. Looked head and shoulders above the rest of England kids in the U21 world cup along with Stones. Seems to be level headed also which is equally as important as ability to be a success.

Everton are planning to send left-back Luke Garbutt out on loan, just a week or so after the England under-21 international signed a new five-year deal.

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez said: "He is someone we wanted to keep because he's got a terrific future and he's got probably the best left-back he could learn from here in Leighton Baines.

"This pre-season will tell us a lot but the idea is for him to go out on loan and gain important experience."

Which should alert plenty of Championship clubs - let the scramble begin.

Yeah that's exactly what I thought. It's a perfect example of Bobby's muddled statements. I think he probably has to go out on loan - I guess he said he wouldn't sign if he was going to stay on the bench or in the reserves for the whole season - but it's ridiculous to say he's going to learn from Baines when he's going to be 200 miles away from him.

Leighton's been injured on and off for a while, as has oviedo. Garbutt's done enough to earn some first team action next season and he'll probbaly be needed.

There is no escaping the Everton injury curse, even when you're out on loan

Bad news for England under-21 defender Luke Garbutt.

The Everton defender who is on-loan at Fulham, was injured in a friendly against Crystal Palace on 1 August.

"The latest on my injury is disappointing I'm out for 6 weeks, I will do everything to get back on the pitch as soon as possible! #gutted"

Wigan Athletic have signed Everton defender Luke Garbutt on loan until 2 January.

The 23-year-old spent last season on loan in the Championship at Fulham where he scored once in 26 appearances.

Garbutt, who is a former England Under-21 international, has also had stints on loan at Colchester and Cheltenham

"We've been hit with injuries to Reece James and Andy Kellett and it was clear we needed someone in," boss Gary Caldwell told the club website.

"Luke is a tremendous young player with a big future in the game and we are delighted to have reached an agreement to bring him here."

He is not available for the Latics game against Birmingham City on Tuesday.
