Post  Super on Wed 18 Aug 2010, 11:39 am

This weekend sees Everton play at fortress Goodison for the first time this season. We are currently unbeaten in 12 home league games, which is our second best run ever at Goodison in the Premiership.

This is our 2499th competitive home match in all competitions. Our record on August 21st is very good with 7 wins, 2 draws & 1 defeat in the last 10 games that we have played on this date. This is the first home game on this date since 1999 when we beat Southampton 4-1.

Wolves at home are also normally good visitors for us and we haven’t lost to them at Goodison since 1979 and we have 7 wins, 4 draws and 1 defeat in their last 12 visits. But lets hope we wont require a late Bily equaliser this time round like last season.

Couple of congratulations firstly to Leighton Baines on making his 100th start for Everton in all competitions against Blackburn last weekend and also Jermaine Beckford on his debut as a sub. He became the 161st player to play for us in the Premiership (bet no-one can name all the other 160 players).

Let’s start the new season a week late, COYB’s!!!!!

From Lawro

Everton v Wolves

It was an odd performance from Everton last week. You could not fault the players' work-rate during the 1-0 defeat at Blackburn but the team did not look like creating anything in front of goal, which is unusual. But home advantage will be significant this weekend and I am backing them to make amends.

Wolves started with a very good victory, beating Stoke 2-1, and are beginning to look like a Premier League team now. Survive the first season in the top flight and clubs get a lump of money to improve their squads. This is exactly what Wolves have done and boss Mick McCarthy may now think he can make three or four changes without seriously weakening his team. That said, I am predicting a home win.

Prediction: 2-0

Going for a nervy 1-0, either an early goal and then nervous all game, or a late winner.

I think it'll take a few games to get in to our stride, but nowhere near last seasons Jeckyl and Hyde!

TEAM NEWS
Everton captain Phil Neville has a foot injury and is a slight doubt for the Premier League match against Wolves. Striker Victor Anichebe is unlikely to feature after having an injection to try and ease a knee problem.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has fitness concerns over Steven Fletcher (foot), Jelle Van Damme (ankle) and Steven Mouyokolo (hamstring). However, last season's top scorer Kevin Doyle is hoping to return to action following a calf injury.

MATCH PREVIEW
Everton will be thankful for home comforts when Goodison Park hosts its first match of the new season. David Moyes's side only lost twice at home last term, beating Chelsea and Manchester United along the way, and will be keen to recapture that kind of form following their opening-day defeat at Blackburn.
The Toffees lost three of their first four league games last season and cannot afford another slip-up so early in the season if they harbour realistic ambitions of mounting a serious top-four challenge.
It is 31 years since Wolves last won at Goodison Park, although they came close last season when they were denied by Diniyar Bilyaletdinov's 88th-minute equaliser.
Wolves kicked-off the new season with an impressive 2-1 win over Stoke, with summer signings Jelle van Damme and Steven Fletcher particularly impressive. The club spent around £16m in the summer in an attempt to build on last season's 15th-placed finish, and manager Mick McCarthy will be looking for an improvement in his side's away form as they seek to establish themselves as a Premier League force.

Hibbert is 2nd choice RB. The thing with Hibbert is he is very defensive while Coleman is offensive albeit inexperienced.

I'd expect JH to return today. Also maybe Bily for Osman, who i thought was v poor against BBurn
