Chelsea sniffing around. Bastards.

Everton want to protect star asset Marouane Fellaini by offering their record signing a new contract at Goodison.

The Belgian midfielder is enjoying an impressive season at Goodison Park and his strong performances for David Moyes' men has led to reports Chelsea are interested in him.

Fellaini moved to Everton for a record £15m in 2008 and has become one of Moyes' most important players during his time at the club and the Everton manager is eager to keep him at Goodison.

Fellaini's contract expires in 2013 but Moyes wants him to extend that by another two years in order to protect his market value should Chelsea firm up their interest in the summer.

talkSPORT understands talks are due to be held between Fellaini and Everton officials and the indications are that he is happy to commit to a new deal at the club.

I hope that last part is true. We should be building our side around him IMO.

The team he'd really suit is Arsenal - you can just imagine him doing the fetching and gathering for Fabregas etc. They'd be unstoppable. Only thing is that they will never pay more than about £10m for any player, so the only way they'd get him would be if he ran his contract down, which we would never let our best player do..... oh.

Losing Pienaar sucked, but he is 28 and getting towards the end of his career. Fellaini on the other hand is 22, I think, and still hasn't fulfilled his potential. It would be a travesty to sell him. Unless we get silly money for him of course, and that would be over £30M.

I also fear that it would send out the wrong message to the players and the fans if we sell a young up and coming player now. We are struggling as it is, we don't need doubt on top of it all.

although i suspect if he signs that we'll see rodwell sold to raise funds, I think felli is more important to the team so I could live with that.

only issue I've got with Felli is he seems to be picking up injuries regularly which is a worry, we've got arteta, Cahill, saha and felli who all seem certain to miss 10 or more games a season at the moment which is a bit of a concern given the depth of our squad.
