Re: 15: Sylvain Distin - Monster
Victory over Cardiff on Saturday, combined with Manchester United's defeat against Liverpool, moved the Toffees back into sixth place and the final qualifying spot for European football.
Everton's squad, which currently has four loan players in it, is small and any European campaign could prove detrimental but Distin insists they would accept that if they are successful.
"It's mixed feelings because you can't say no to playing in Europe. As a player it's impossible to not want that," he told the Liverpool Echo.
"But it's completely different from the Champions League in terms of finances for the club. It's a lot of travel and you need a big squad.
"Yes, it would be amazing for the club and for the fans to be travelling back in Europe again but for the team, if we're not going to have a much bigger squad next season, it could be tough.
"If you look at the big picture, as I say it's important you've got to ensure that being in the Europa League doesn't make you suffer back in the league.
"When you play every Thursday and come back on the Friday before playing again on the Sunday it is hard."
Distin stressed, however, they have not yet given up hope of a top-four finish.
"As long as it is mathematically possible we will try, we will not give up," he told evertontv.
"We have 10 games left and will try to finish as high as we can."

Moyes actually did a bit of that when we were in the UEFA cup, leaving a couple of key players on the bench and giving the likes of Anchibe a run out.

Re: 15: Sylvain Distin - Monster
Everton defender Sylvain Distin faces a 48-hour wait to find out if he will play again this season.
Roberto Martinez confirmed in his morning press conference that the French defender will miss Saturday's game with Southampton after being withdrawn at half-time of Everton's victory over Manchester United on Sunday with a hamstring injury.
The 35-year-old will undergo a scan to confirm the extent of the injury amid fears that he could now miss the remaining three games of the season.
Antolin Alcaraz will continue to partner John Stones on Saturday as Martinez also confirmed the club wouldn't rush captain Phil Jagielka back from a hamstring injury of his own.
The Paraguayan has played just five times since signing from Wigan Athletic in the summer.
Martinez said: “Sylvain had to come off against United on Sunday and he won’t be fit for this weekend.
“It is a little bit too early to know how long he is going to be out.
“I do think that over the next 48 hours we will have a clear idea of whether he will be available before the season ends.”

Jags is due back for the City game. The big question is can the Bird Man get through 90 minutes on Saturday. He played the whole second half against Utd so I'd imagine his muscles are quite fatigued.

The fact that he won THREE headers off corners was rather impressive and very surprising since we never create shit from the corners.Made FooFoo Gwladys wrote:I tell you what though GG ... he was fucking good.. impressive in factGoodison_Gringo wrote:Super wrote:Everton defender Sylvain Distin faces a 48-hour wait to find out if he will play again this season.

He looked composed when playing his way out from the back as well. It really is a big difference to the Weir/Stubbs days.

At the age of 35, I also am announcing my retirement from International football. Wouldn't be fair to waste the time of O'Neill & Keane to scout me at my 5-a-side games. #thanksforthememories

Nope... I imagine he never scored highly enough on the egocentric twat chart to be considered.
I've several French mate were always astounded at his omission as well.

Re: 15: Sylvain Distin - Monster
Everton defender Sylvain Distin has apparently been absent from training for the past 10 days, according to our sources.
The Frenchman has been replaced at the back by young England international John Stones in recent games, and has apparently not been attending Finch Farm training sessions with the rest of the first team squad for some time.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that Distin was among those singled out for criticism by Roberto Martinez after the defeat to Swansea in the League Cup last month and has taken it badly, which has led to him being told to “take some time out.”
The last thing Everton need at the moment is disharmony in the changing rooms, with the desperation to find form increasing with each game.

Not just that though, with Stones possibly out for a while Distin would be a shoe-in, I would assume, for a starting spot.POLLYANNA wrote:Everton defender Sylvain Distin has apparently been absent from training for the past 10 days, according to our sources.

Dizzy seems pretty level-headed so I can't imagine this is true. We have Alcaraz as back up anyway, so everything will be just fine
